I am at four months post op and have been noticing a big increase in my hair loss. I noticed tonight that it is sooooo thin around my forehead that it is almost like a receding hairline. I take biotin each day. Has anyone found help for this?

My surgeon says to increase protein intake - people who lose a lot typically aren't hitting their protein needs (not necessarily goals but needs - if you notice a dramatic increase, your body may need more protein than you're getting). My hairdresser recommends the Nioxin systems - if you go to their website, www.nioxin.com, and take their quiz, it'll recommend a specific regimen for you.

Also check out Phytophanere supplements. I started taking them preop, on a brea****il dr clears me to take them again but I like them. A very small pill.

I was told that when my hair started to fall out it was a result of my diet three months earlier. By that time it was too late to get it back. I was told to increase my protein to 100 grams a day and take biotin, primrose and flax seed oil supplements. It took me about a year to get my hair back but it's much better now. It was awful but losing the weight was worth it.

Thank you. What was your protein level in the 3 months prior? Wonder why 100g. Maybe exercise makes you need more? Any strategies to get 100g in daily? Thanks!

Check out my HAIR LOSS in VSG

Biotin, Nioxin, ^^protein over 80gs a day.....all WORTHLESS for hair shedding/thinning.in VSG hair loss.
Phytophanere esp. during the rapid fat loss phase NOT recommended for women AT ALL! Best buy yerself hair nails n skin or Neocell Collagen +C... cuz all you'll get is longer, stronger nails, smoother skin...WITHOUT the added side effects...that phytophanere causes...none of the products will do jack squat for your hair!

for metabolic induced ACUTE telogen effluvium /diffuse hair loss. ...EPA/DHA give the DHA a boost by addin a DHA supplement  combine with Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) supplement....both androgen inhibitors ..would be most beneficial......not only for your body (as we're usually deficient anyway), but for hair loss.

Interesting information, especially on the Vitamin D.  I take large doses because living in Seattle we are very Vitamin D deficiant.  I am almost 5 months out and have not lost any hair.... not that it still can't happen but maybe the Vitamin D is helping.  I haven't taken anything else additionally from my regular vitamins except the added D.

My dr puts all his patients on 28mg Zinc starting a month before surgery. I had my husband pick me up some and he inadvertently got 56mg tablets. I took that for 4 months. At my 3 month check up and bloodwork they told me to stop the zinc that my levels were too high. But hey, no hair loss yet - not to say that it won't happen! Zinc also helps promote healing.
