NSV! The Walking Edition
I live in a suburb. I find it a boring place to walk. I love "hiking" in a beautiful place, but find "walking" boring, anyway. Especially when it means walking the same sidewalks day after day.
I had considered walking the short distance to the neighborhood shopping center that has a Starbucks, supermarket, and several restaurants. Also my bank. I thought about trying to convince myself I was European and all these things in walking distance should be walked, not driven.
Well, since dropping over 65 pounds and now, since the heat has abated, I've been walking more in the past couple of weeks. I've discovered that with a backpack for whatever I want with me--a book to read, a laptop, or to carry home some things from the supermarket, I am very comfortable walking.
I just found myself considering walking to Jack in the Box for lunch. I love Chicken Fajita Pitas and can make two meals of one. And it's twice as far as the neighborhood shopping center!
In the past couple of weeks I've found myself taking the long way around so that I get more steps on my fitbit. I am now contemplating walking places that before I would never consider. It's partly the motivation to get more steps logged because I do lead a very sedentary life. But it's also because I'm not carrying around 65 pounds of fat.
Excuse me, while I stop and close my eyes, and picture that.
Ick.
I am no longer carrying around that 65 pounds of fat.
I have more to lose, but I am so very happy that it has sometimes been hard to motivate myself to keep going. (Not now--I got over that.)
So I still hate walking the same old paths just to walk, but have discovered that I really do like walking when it has a goal, a destination. I feel green (not burning gas) and healthy.
Thank you, sleeve!!!!

Awesome NSV gurl.
I know walking can be boring. If I walk by myself, I always bring my iPhone or iPod so I can listen to my favorite dance music. It totally gets me in the mood to keep a steady fast stride & get lost in the music to where I forget that I am actually even exercising.
Congrats on 65 pounds lost. You are doing awesome!!!
