Timeframe
VSG on 01/23/13
Hiya!!
Just beginning my journey and so far so good with having all my test almost out of the way.
Just wondering what some timeframes were for people getting the VSG.
So far I have seen my surgeon and done more than 1/2 of my tests. Just wondering what I might be looking forward to for a surgery date being that I dont have to do the weight management part.
2 months? 3 months? 6? More????

Thanks!!
Kris

Your insurance company should have an outline on requirements. You can usually do a search on their site to find it or you can call.
It is really up to them whether they require a 3 month pre op diet, or a 6 month diet.
So with that being said; my insurance required a 3 or 6 month and one docs office said they couldnt get me approved for less than 6 months and another office promised they could get me approved in 3 months... so I went with the three months place.
All the tests I had to do like ekg, sleep study, etc was all done DURING my 3 month diet phase so I got everything said an done and will be sleeved within 4 months of my consultation date :)
A few friends of mine were required the 6 months so it took 7-8 months for them. For me it was 4!

Yeah stomach problems could delay it. However if you have no insurance requirements it should be a very fast process. Still seems like a really long time unless that ulcer just wont go away...

Hi Kris,
I'm in the process myself. I'm not sure if my experience is "typical" but here's how the journey has been for me so far...
I received my preop checklist mid-August. I just finished doing all the things on that list as of yesterday--part of the delay was just scheduling appointments, and
them with time off work, etc.
The bariatric surgery clinic I'm working with is submitting my authorization for surgery today or tomorrow. The care coordinator let me know that it will probably take about 2 weeks for authorization to come through. From that point, they'll schedule my surgical consult with the surgeon and then comes my surgery date.
Good luck!

My insurance only has 2 requirements. 1) bmi above 40 or 35 with 2 comorbidities and 2) psych eval.
That's it.
1 initial doctor visit and 1 psych eval. If I didn't have anything regulating my time. I would be done in 2 weeks and papers would be off to insurance. My insurance will take no longer than 45 days to approve, but is usually done within a week. So if I really pushed, from start to fini**** could take about a month, tops.
It really comes down to what your insurance/employer and doctor require.
