Discovered a Trigger Food and Why!

Hey! I'm still not quite having a great day but I did go work out and am feeling so much better health wise. I read someone talk about snacking and it reminded me to share something with you guys!

When I am PMS'ing, I crave salty snacks. I have never done this in my life. Specifically, I want pretzels. Pre-surgery, I hated pretzels. Too dry, right? They're definitely not part of my weight loss phase b/c I'm low carb. Well I am having this happen more and more b/c of the increased TOMs due to hormonal changes lol.

Anyway, I usually eat 5 pretzels then I'm done with it. No more craving, life goes on as normal. Of course I'd like to say I log it but I haven't been logging anything lately. Bad Tiffany.

The other day my son didnt' finish his snack. It was cheddar chex mix. I ate a couple of them for no good reason. And I couldn't stop. My hubby snapped me out of it. I griped at him but stopped.

I talked to my counselor. What was it about the chex mix? He said he read an article about mixes being potentially dangerous as a trigger food because of all the different textures. Each bite is a different sensation so you don't get that satisfaction you are looking as quickly or at all. Having 5 pretzels the taste gets boring, your taste buds move on.

This was huge for me because I don't have trigger foods really. I wasn't that diet coke addict or anything. Recognizing this was huge! No more chex mix or any mix!! haha. Keep it simple folks!

Great insights!  It's so good that you are able to recognize and work through the triggers!  That's a huge victory in itself!

Thank you! My counselor keeps telling me to stop fixating on the scale and look at the "big picture" patterns. It's hard to remind yourself of that sometimes, though.

I'm gonna keep that in mind the next time I eat anything with more than 1 texture that is salty or full of sugar. It makes sense to me.

Thanks for the tip!!
