Sleep Eating??? What's up with that?

I am continuing to loose weight and I'm so excited to report that I am into a size 14. Eight pounds to go and I'll have lost 90 pounds. BUT....

I have a new thing and I don't get this. For 3 nights I have been up sleep eating. This is a new thing! Never happened before. My husband said are you eating my corn chips? I guess I did. I take an ambien every night and usually sleep through the night.

I'm concerned about this. I told my husband he'll have to hide his chips or something. There isn't any other junk in the house. I'm staying on track during the day and have even lost 2 pounds this week.

Has anyone else ever done this and what did you do to stop. Weird right?

Hi Carolyn,

This actually may be contributed to the ambien, My FIL takes this as well and my MIL has caught him several times getting up in the middle of the night eating.

Ambien is a crazy drug- in some people, sleep walking, sleep eating and strange behavior that you don't remember can happen (others it doesn't effect at all). I would ask your doc about another type of sleep aid- I wouldn't want to wake up one am and see a few sticks of butter missing! YIKES!

Definitely the Ambien. It's a side effect.

oh yes.  ambien sleep eating here, too.  Pre-surgery, I'd wake up to food wrappers and no memory of eating.  I took the opportunity of surgery to get off ambien, since I knew I'd be on painkillers and sleeping a lot anyway.

I now take it very occasionally, and have not been sleep-eating.  But I only take it once or twice a week, not any more often than that.  too risky re weight gain, after all my hard work!
