Food struggles can be a very normal part of this journey. I commend you on realizing that you have food issues that need to be addressed.
I will tell you, I am personally not a big fan of increasing calories to compensate for exercise. I know this differs from what many say to do, but for me being an obese person - or formerly obese person now - increasing calories would have been a slippery slope. First, I had very little ability to increase the volume of food I ate and second, I knew that once I increased calories and amounts it would be darned hard to reduce again when and if I reduced exercise. Now, granted, I limited my exercise to an hour to hour and a half of fairly rigorous exercise per day. I was not doing a Warrior Dash as you were. I kept my calories at 800 a day while I was in WL phase.
I have been in your shoes, more recently than I would like to admit. Carbs, candy, it all acts like a trigger for me and the cravings can become pretty strong. I have had to eliminate foods and go back to clean eating. It is hard to go back to eating less, but I'd encourage you to look at the quality of the food you are eating and the types - e.g. chili doesn't stay with you for very long and we know there is no real redeeming quality to candy! LOL! - and switch to thinking about dense protein as your pre work out snack. A lot of the hard core guys at my gym sip on protein shakes during their workouts. That might be an option for you, too. I still stick with water myself and then have a shake when I get home followed by a meal about 2 hours later.
Just offering up what has worked for me. You are a bigger guy so you may want to adjust accordingly. Just my take on it.
Thank you for the reply!
I committed to myself that I am going back tot he basics and started today... I am going to the routine that was yielding 4-6lbs a week and will stick with that until I get closer to the goal weight. I know this is not something I can do forever, but it take my find away from food focus and diverts it to other things... I am also adding in a new workout schedule/routine... I am joining cross fit and that with the basic food plan will kick my ass back to the place it needs to be!
