Goal Reached so why am I not satisfied?
I dropped to under goal yesterday. I've been within 3 lbs of it for two weeks. So why is it I feel I need to lose more? I've done this in record time, 7 months. My doctor doesn't really set goals. He said as long as I feel good and healthy. A difficult concept for me with my other health issues. My Rhuematologist wanted me under 180. The "charts" say 152.25 at 5'9.5". I said I felt best under 170, so I set my goal at 165. My VSG doc said that's good.
Yesterday 3 people told me I've become too thin. One even said anorexic. Now I have been anorexic in the past. I was down to 107 lbs. I wasn't even over 150 until my late 30s and became obese after I got really sick with RA about 14 years ago and tried for about 10 years to lose it, but kept losing and gaining. I've just gotten the hang of my new tummy and now I need to figure out maintenance. Or do I still try to lose more? I know I'll probably settle out somewhere around 160. I really don't want to be 152, it's just too thin.
Any advice from the vets? Thanks
My best advice is to take a few pictures of yourself and see if you look the way you want to look. Ask yourself if you feel good at this weight and don't listen to the people that tell you that you look anorexic. People started the same silly talk with me when I still had 20 pounds to lose. They were wrong. Remember that your fat will readjust itself over then next year and you will look even better than you do now. Also remember that it is always easier to gain a few pounds than to lose a few pounds. If you go to low and want to adjust up, that's really not much of a problem. The truth is that even adjusting down is no longer that difficult. In the end, your goal does not need to be set for life. You can always change your mind and readjust in either direction. Remembering this should take some stress away from you. This does not have to be a one time decision that can't be revisited later. That's really the beauty of the sleeve, your weight is really up to you now. Good luck in picking the weight that works for you for right now.
Michelle,
I wish you success on your journey. My advice for you is to remember that we are individuals who lose at different rates and what works for some doesn't for others. I lost my weight incredibly fast, for better or worse. I wouldn't expect anyone to lose as fast as I did. Stick to your plan and it will come off. Be kind to yourself. Be you and don't compare yourself to anyone else. Your journey is yours.
With kindness, jem
Take a deep breath........
My suggestion would be to "Take a mental break".........
Establish your maintenance regime.....live with yourself a bit......take time to soak it all in.....let your body and mind settle in.....
Than you can "fine tune" it......
YOUR IN THE RANGE.......
As a little time goes on you will have a clearer view on eventual weight for long term.......

Thank you Frisco. Well spoken. The sad thing is that as a teen and 20 something I always had to be super thin for the designers and magazines. Models are taught to be super critical of all their photos in the days long before Photoshop. It's the other side of the weight coin. Those who are over weight think models and thin folks don't have self esteem and food issues. Most do and they also want to be people pleasers . This was especially true in the 70's and early 80's.
I went through many years of therapy and became a confident and accomplished woman. Then in 1997 my world crashed. I was diagnosed with Rhuematoid Arthritist among other things. The meds and symptoms caused me to gain over 70 pounds. I spent over 10 years bouncing back and forth trying to lose weight only to gain more.
So, Frisco when you say to take a mental brake, I think you're on the right track. I spent so many years under weight , a few years at a healthy weight, followed by 10+ years overweight, and now that I'm at a healthy weight again, it's time for a break. I know I still need to fuel my body properly... Our topic at group 3 nights ago...but your right in that I need to let it all settle in.
Thanks for the reminder and advice.
