Is it really necessary?

Is it really necessary to eat more than once a day? I have never been a big meat eater I kinda take it by spells but after surgery I have made myself eat meat first. So couldn't I just do my protein shakes 2 times a day which keeps me stuffed all day and then just eat meat and veggies at dinner?

If that's what works for you, sure.  Personally, I like my food.  But as long as you're taking your vitamins, getting your protein, and hydrating, you're okay.

Kaiser wanted me to stop all protein shakes at 3 months but I have found some I really like so I continued to drink them up until recently.  I still drink them but I kinda O'D on them.  I'm not sure how early out you are.  Some people who are close to goal still drink 2 protein shakes a day but usually in addition to 2-3 small meals.  I don't think you are always going to want protein shakes but if you are fairly early out and your doc says its OK then I'm sure it's fine.

I always got in trouble by my surgeon for not eating more often but someone here got to goal by drinking 2-3 protein shakes a day and 1 meal.

Honestly, I still have days where I don't want to eat, so I do exactly what you said, two shakes and dinner. If I had a hard workout that day I will sometimes add a 3rd shake, it works for me.

My doc wanted me to taper off shakes but I can't eat early in the day so I have black coffee with Unjury Chocolate Splendor protein powder and some ice (yum!) and then eat little bits of stuff throughout the day. Usually a raw trail mix packet, a cheese stick, maybe a piece of fruit, then I'll either have some Fage Greek yogurt or chicken for "food food". Dinner is usually chicken or fish, but if I'm not super hungry or I'm running around I'll do a Luna bar.

My whole goal of this surgery was to be okay eating about 800 calories a day without feeling like I was starving. So far so good.

I think it's really up to what works for you.  Make sure to take your vitamins so that you get everything you're supposed to nutritionally, but other than that - I think it's fine.  I thought I would do that, but then got tired of the shakes, so I'm off them at the moment.  I go back and forth. :)
