HUNGER hormone?

I thought the VSG was supposed to greatly reduce hunger by removing the part of the stomach that produces gherlin, the hunger hormone.  I am 5 weeks post-op and hungry almost all the time!  Really disappointed and second guessing the whole thing.

What kinds of foods can you have and are you taking a PPI (sometime reflux feels like hunger).  I'm only a little over two weeks out, and just moved to purees, but the only thing close to hunger I have is several hours after a meal -- so I think that's hunger, and it's not nearly as strong as before.

My understanding is that when you start more dense proteins you feel fuller as well, but I'm just now mixing blenderizing dense proteins into my purees, and today I started to notice a difference.

I think it's one of those things that'**** or miss.  I'm still hungry and its not my acid reflux because that's well controlled.  While I may get really really hungry it only takes 1/10 of what I use to eat to make me full.  You will also find it comes and go, some days I'm really ravenous and other days not so much but again, my capacity is limited and 4oz of meat makes me feel like I ate a 16oz steak.

There is also head hunger and surgery won't help that.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

My doctor told me at best the surgery removes 70% of the hunger. At worst, you will still feel hungry even with the 30% of Grehlin left. Also he said that it takes time for it to leave your body post op and a while later your other organs start to produce it to compensate. So he said for the first six months to a year you will be less hungry but not completely not hungry..then it may or may not increase. I am the lucky unhungry one. I don't take a PPI anymore either and I really don't feel hunger at all. Its not an aversion to food, i still want to eat, but its never urgent.
