Save me from the Chinese Buffet!!
This week I have THREE Christmas functions but the one I am most dreading is tonight! My husband sits on a Board of Directors and it's their Christmas Celebration at The Mandarin...a Chinese buffet! I remember last year I ate plates of food! It was disgusting! For the life of me I can't remember exactly what they serve there in entirety but I am racking my brain trying to decide if I will eat prior and avoid the food there at all costs or if I will be able to find something appropriate!
Any suggestions?
I am allergic to shellfish and crustaceans so that option is out the window. I do know they have a massive salad bar and usually some kind of carved meat station (roast beef I think). Other than that a lot of the dishes are deep fried, saucy, carby, junk I think?!?!
Freaking buffets! They shouldn't even exist...nasty things they are!!!
Usually there's some sort of veggie and chicken di**** will be sauced up, but you can probably find something, even if just a salad and toss some chicken pieces on top.
I hate buffets these days. They are hard to do and it's such a waste of time/energy. I would go and just figure it out. We have to learn to fit real life into our plans, unfortunately.

If there is a meat carving station then I would get some of that and a bit of salad.
Hot and sour soup is not too bad, and it can be quite filling with the tofu and chicken. I would also entertain the Mongolian BBQ route, or finding an entree with just chicken and broccoli with clear sauce. If you can make friends with the server, perhaps you can ask him/her about some healthier options or if they could make something off-menu for you. Sometimes servers may be really happy to help!
