Too many holiday parties? Use your calendar!
This is something I learned at WW many years ago. Some people have so many social commitments it might not help, but for many if not most of us, I think it's useful.
With the holidays breathing down our necks or upon us, it can seem like this big blob on the calendar that spells TEMPTATION and TROUBLE.
But it's rarely a blob. It's not truly a season unless you let it be.
Print out a December calendar (month-size) if you don't already have one on the wall somewhere. Actually mark the days when you will be at a party or event where food will be an issue.
For most of us, there aren't really that many. In our minds we see the holidays as a block of time, rather than a few occasions. And if you look at it as a few single occasions, and come up with a plan for each one, it's much less daunting and easier to deal with on an emotional as well as practical level.
Of course, this also means not having your desk/kitchen filled with goodies, or filled with alternatives to the goodies that others will have, but that goes without saying.
Also, try drinking hot drinks -- tea or coffee -- to keep you feeling satiated.
What is your best advice to share?
I love Christmas cookies and love making them..however, I will not let that temptation in my home..but to fulfill my baking desire, I've made gingerbread "breads" in a cute Williams Sonoma baking pan (gingerbread man)..there is no temptation to "eat just one" because they are these large breads for gift giving...cookies are just too easy to get started on..and no stopping!
