Why can't we have caffeine??
Of course you can have caffeine! You're a grown-up---you get to decide what you put into your body.
Caffeine is a VERY MILD diuretic, and if you consume it daily, even that small effect goes away. Caffeine can hinder the absorption of calcium. I personally take a ton of calcium every day, so I'm going to have my iced tea, too. Caffeine can irritate the stomach, especially while healing. My doc said that if it didn't bother ME, then there was no reason that *I* couldn't have it.
Seriously, research it for yourself and make your decision based on the pros and cons and how YOU feel about them. I have caffeine for the safety of others. (*grin*)
Very wise advice! We are not cookie cutter images. Everyone here is going to tolerate different foods/substances differently. Personally, I am like you, I become a danger to the public if I do not have my caffeine fix, so I asked my NUT specifically if I am allowed caffeinated coffee post-op. She told ME I can consume it as tolerated. This means, I will have to test it to see how it reacts with my new stomach, just like everyone else should. As smart as everyone in this forum seems to be, nobody in here is going to have the "correct" answer for any one individual. You have to find that out for yourself.
Happy New Year!
