When you are sick with a bad cold/flu, you drink.....?

I am hoping to have my surgery in March...waiting to get approved.  Meanwhile, just ended 10 days of the worst bronchitis and cold ever.  Slept all day, aches, chills...horrible!!!!  All I wanted was to drink OJ and Cran juice.  Well, I ate some junk foods too (sweets for comfort).  When you have VSG, and you get a bad cold or flu, are you allowed to deviate from the Atkins-like food plan?  Or are large amounts of OJ out of the question?  I probably have gone through 6 Gallons of OJ in 10 days!

I would say jus****er and hot tea.  You could put lemon in the tea, or flavor the water with SF orange somehow.  OJ has over a hundred calories a glass and 26 carbs. It would be hard to fit that in your plan, because you will still need protein.  It's sounds tough, but it's definitely doable.  I bet a glass of OJ would be way too sweet for me now, your taste buds change quickly.

Oh, I hope and pray you are correct about taste buds changing!  I have such a serious sweettooth today ;-(  Probably why I am obese ;-)   It is starting to settle in how much of a new life commitment and change this surgery is...scary, nervous (of failure) and exciting!

Hi Sarah! I'm 5 weeks post op and I can honestly say that my sweet tooth got up and marched right out and yes... I had a serious and demanding sweet tooth!!  My diabetes also got up and departed in just 5 weeks! I can't wait for my next A1C test as my PCP will be so pleased! (I haven't seen him since last summer).

I don't drink OJ anymore as its too acidic for me.

I drink cranberry juice frequently, but I do dilute it with water by 50/50 or else its just too strong (I used to do that pre-surgery though too, so its not because of any VSG related thing)

I am almost 4 weeks out and I have the flu really bad with bronchitis. I feel the worst I ever had in my life. I haven't had much of an appetite but I force myself to eat some jello and drink lots of tea. I had to force myself to eat because of all this medicine I'm taking so I ate a little bit of chicken noodle soup maybe 1 third cup. Then a couple hours later I took maybe 3 bites of macaroni and cheese. I know both those foods are not part of the plan but that's what I was feeling like having at the time. As soon as I get better its back to 66-99g of protein daily with minimum of 64oz water.

I'm sick right now and was Thurs & Fri too.

Yep I still drank OJ.

Not as much though and discovered I liked it with the Orange Isopure. Ok, didn't like it as much straight but it allowed me to get Vitamin C in and protein at the same time. My focus when I am sick is fluids. If that is tea and campbell's canned chicken noodle soup and OJ then that's what it is until I'm better. Today I managed a 1/4 sirloin cheeseburger no bun. Takeout. I'm the cook in my house and frankly the flu knocked me out for two days straight. It was/is bad. And I had a flu shot!

Sick as a dog too! Had surgery 3 months ago. Had mrs. Grass's chicken noodle soup with crackers, some tea with orange blossom honey, and trying to drink more water. I know it's a lot of carbs but it is the only thing that taste good right now.

OJ while a great source of vitamin C is HORRIBLE for you. Calories, Sugar & Carbs galore.

I've been sick 2 times since my surgery and it was PowerAde Zero & Tea to get me through.
