Water/tummy full/need advice!
VSG on 06/26/12
During the time I was in the Edmonton Weight Wise program (when I lost my initial chunk of weight) I learned that the 1400 calories a day they had me on was bearable only if I ate 5 times a day, fairly evenly spaced. (Otherwise I was ravenous all the time)
My post op diet from Dr Aceves recommends the same schedule, and I assume that as my hunger comes back I'll find the same - eating on schedule and never skipping meals will be a huge help in staying on plan.
I'm never going to be able to be casual or "hunger led" in my eating. I'll always need the structure of a planned routine. I'll always need to have food of some sort in my purse to avoid skipping meals and getting over-hungry. Casual eating took me to 303# and will take me right back there, even with my sleeve, if I let it.
I'm one of the few that doesn't have problems with drinking shortly after eating. (unless I foolishly eat until I feel full - then I don't dare drink) However - I also don't count on a feeling of fullness to remind me to not eat. Fact is that if I grazed I could nibble all day long and take in a buttload of calories, even with my sleeve, even at only 6 months out. The only way to manage this (for me) is to measure out my food at scheduled times, put the rest of the food AWAY, then sit down and enjoy my food. When I get to the comfortably satisfied point I stop eating and chuck anything left on my plate.
Obviously my way isn't right for everyone, but it works for me better than anything else ever has.
