I fought both weighing/measuring my food and keeping a food journal for all of my (many) years of dieting.  It was a nuisance, I didn't have time, I'm good at estimating, blah, blah, blah...  That kind of thinking got me to nearly 350 pounds.  When I decided to have this surgery, I committed to the whole package so yes, I weight and measure everything.  And I really love My Fitness Pal.  Just seeing the protein and calorie numbers makes me very conscious of the food decisions that I make--and I enter EVERYTHING, including my chewable vitamins.  I would love it, though, if someone could tell me if there is a way to get MFP to stop with the "you need to eat 240 more grams of carbs today" and "you are undereating, you need to eat 1200 more calories today" business.  Eating that many carbs is what got me into this mess in the first place!

MFP - My Fitness Pal.com

I am working on trying to measure more. I haven't measured actually, anything. But I am working on a goal this year ( at least for the next month or so) to measure everything. I am already amazed how way off I really was on the "eyeballing". I snack on Sunflower seeds throughout the day. I thought 1 oz. was much smaller than it really was.

Tracking on MFP is also another goal of mine. I am not very good about tracking my foods. If anyone wants to friend me I am beagles8102. I could use all the friends I can get.

For the first 2 years, yes, religiously.  Lately, not so much.  I use the same foods and same cuts of meat over and over again.  I can tell you within a quarter of an ounce how much my regular foods weigh by eyeballing.  If I'm not sure about something, I weigh it.

I weigh and measure religiously. The only exception is when I eat out and then I under eat big time! I also log my food daily on Livestrong.com and keep a journal. I also chart my daily weight. All these things help keep me accountable in maintenance. I figure by 2 or 3 years out, I may be able to let up a little, but for now, these are necessary habits - and luckily, they have become habits that are part of my routine and are second nature to me now.

I weigh or measure nearly everything and record on MFP.

That habit has educated me enough so when I eat out, if I estimate the grilled salmon at 5 ozs it may actually be 4 or 6 (a variation of 40 calories either way, meh) but it is NOT actually 8 ozs.

Confessing.
I don't. I do make sure my portions are never bigger than my iPhone/palm of hand. I did WW yrs ago and learned about portion sizes pre sleeve.
I even worked at Jenny Craig wayyyyy before I gained a ton of weight.
I hate MFP. If I start gaining I know what to do though.

I am 6 weeks post and I dont weigh or measure anything. Bad?

My nut only tells me to get my protein in and liquids. I am down 35/36 lbs since surgery. Am I bad for not doing that? I eat what I have until I am full. my surgeon told me monday, if my food in front of me isnt gone in 20 min or so, stop eating (or if I feel that fullness, stop) and that is what I do.

Yes - I measure everything except when I'm at a restaurant (which is rare)...I track everything to make sure I hit all my macros for the day...
