5'7 400 pound will the sleeve work?
I started at 450lbs (430lbs at surgery date) I'm down 131lbs so far and planning to get to 170 before I reconsider my long term goal. I believe you can do anything you set your mind to do. The surgery is only giving you a tool. You still have to do the work in order to get paid as my dr refers to it. There are several Vets on here that have lost 200+ lbs with the sleeve and are maintaining wonderfully. Im telling you this because I didn't want the sleeve at first. I wanted the RNY and I cried when my dr said he wouldn't perform the RNY until I was under a 60bmi I was 84 at the time. He felt I was too high risk based on my medical history for that surgery and felt the sleeve was a safer route and told me if I put my mind to it I would be successful in getting to goal. So I went home and started planning for the sleeve had surgery 5 wks later. Within 1 month I was off 12 of the 13 medications I was on. 3 months out had perfect labs and at 6 months had a sleep study and cpap pressure went from a 17 to 12. I still have a ways to go but with work and determination I will get to goal and you can too if you want it bad enough. Good luck and I wish you the best :)
Here's the thing---sure you can lose it, but can you maintain that loss long-term? I think most people can lose incredible amounts of weight with just about any form of WLS, but then, many, many people here lost 100+ pounds without WLS---but they gained it back, sometimes more than once.
Yesterday someone posted that at five years post-op, the average Sleever is maintaining a loss of 55% of their starting excess weight. Will that be satisfactory to you?
In comparison, at five years post-op the average RNYer was maintaining 60%, so there's not much difference there. But the average DSer is maintaining 78% at TEN years post-op.
Think twice, cut once.
Yes... That would be me who posted it.
That is also the average and fails to take into consideration how many people are now losing 100% of it, or those who only ever lost 10% of it...
DS is great for some and not for others. It is all a matter of doing what will suit ones lifestyle best and making sure the risks are something you can live with.

Oh, I agree completely---but that's why I think everyone needs to look at all the available procedures, and look at the statistical averages for them.
I started at 452 - It works as a tool - you have to make sure you are ready to change your life!!!!! Its been the best thing I ever did!!!
100 LBS gone in 3 Months! - 150 LBS gone in just over 5 Months!
200 LBS gone in just under 9 Months!

I would encourage you to look closely both at VSG And DS. Meet with doctors who perform both and get their opinions. It really depends upon your health issues (for example, if you are diabetic and require a lot of meds for blood sugar, then the DS might be better for you) and your commitment to changing your relationship with food and exercise forever. The DS has long-term implications that may or may not be worthwhile for you--you just have to investigate and find out what is the best procedure for you.
I just want to say thank you for everyone who has replied :) You all have given me hope. I know its hard work and I'm ready to do my part I just wasn't to sure. I have been working out and trying to do the weigh****chers thing but i've come to a stop. I have not been able to loose anymore it seems and I'm doing both workout and watching my intake. I have lost 40 pounds and I'm at 390 so I'm just looking into the surgery options again. I have emailed a couple of surgeons to see how much it would cost cause I don't have insurance at the moment but i did qualify for a loan.
Thank you all again :) You've made my day.
