mashed potatoes on pureed phase?
I didn't worry too much about carbs until I graduated to all foods. I did focus on low-carb/sugar free as much as possible, but I felt like the gradual migration from liquids to purees to mushies to all foods was more about introducing foods to a seriously injured (and healing) stomach, than it was about losing weight. As it turned out I was eating so few calories altogether, and concentrating on protein so much, that the few carby things I ate didn't matter, and didn't set me up or trigger me. Or affect my weight loss, as far as I know. Once I was on all foods, it was low carb all the way and ever since. (Nowadays I get a forkful of someone else's mashed potatoes every so often when I'm out to dinner, if they order it, and that's it. I eat at home 90% of the time and don't have carbs in the house.) YMMV
When I was in this phase, I ate what was healing to me. Potatoes are very soothing and healing to a recovering tummy. I didn't make a daily habit of it and I mixed in some protein powder. It could not have been more than a quarter of a cup at a time, if that. When you are able to eat solid foods and your stomach is healed, then I would worry more about potatoes and other starchy carbs.

I too am in the pureed stage and I have a 1/4 of mashed potatoes and 1 scoop of Unjury Chicken flavored protein powder and it makes it taste like I am eating fried chicken gravy on my potatoes...so delish...even so I have only had it twice in the 3 weeks since surgery....

I bought the small package ones, Idahoan I think they were called. just add water and microwave. You can only have a couple tablespoons at max in that stage so you are not getting crazy calories or anything it did not hurt me at all, but tasted good cause it was something warm for a change. Didn't do well with the boullions and soups too salty. So I think you really do have to test things and see what works for you.
