A blog I read said to try eating with baby spoons and forks. And my dietician said to chew each bite 30 times. I'm pre op and have been attempting that for several days. I'm always trying to chew each bite more times than the last lol.

Put your fork down and count to 30 chews, then swallow. Take a minute to let the last one settle and repeat.

Tha helped me (although Im still not perfect)

I have a problem with eating slow enough also! It's gonna take me a while to make it a habit. I take two bites then I put my fork down and wait a few minutes, see how I feel and then take another bite. Repeat. As early out as I am, most of the time I can't even eat all my 2 or 3 ozs so I have to go sooo slow so that I don't hurt myself.

Yesterday I got so hungry cleaning my house, I took like 5 bites way too fast and it ended up coming right back up! Whoops! Good luck with learning our new way of eating!!

I have a terrible time eating slow especially when I am hungry.  I just try to be aware when I am eating and not zoning out (which apparently I did all the time before) so I just try to pay attention. I have never thrown up but I have felt very uncomfortable!

I've done the same thing and you're right! Ouch! Slowing down when you've ate mindlessly for many years is really hard and chewing till food is mush is very hard. I'm using the small utensils and the salad size plates (I could use a saucer-no more than I'm able to eat! Ha!) Anyway, I find that I actually have to think about what I'm eating when I'm eating it. There are things I just can't eat right now also. I try to stick with the easy meats like, fish, chicken, tuna and turkey. I LOVE vegetables but they take up valuable protein space so I'm back to only meats again for awhile. I still have to supplement with the shakes though. I did find since I am sick of plain chocolate shakes, adding the PB2 makes for a whole different taste. We have to keep plugging along and trying to get better at this eating thing! We'll get there. For now, we must take advantage of the fact we are losing excess weight before the appetite and the ability to eat more happens. :)   Good luck!
