What to do when you miss the TASTE of a food?

We just had some great dinner (Fajitas), got my proteins up to 89 (I believe), I've got about 80 oz of fluids in me (I was up EARLY to accomplish this.), so what happens... I want a different taste. I know this was my problem prior to surgery. I didn't eat because I was hungry. I ate for the different flavors. The flavor I want the most? Strawberry. Where can I find the sugar free syrups that everyone talks about? I've searched Walmart and the commissary, but I'm not sure where in the stores I'm supposed to look. Maybe I should check Kroger. I figure I can put some syrup in my yogurt for a snack tomorrow to cure the itch.

Smart and Final, Cost Plus World Market, some at Fresh & Easy - I think Target had a tiny selection.  I ordered most of my SF syrups online.  The strawberry one is great!  The mango one was even better :P

The Torani site can get expensive - but I prefer the Torani to the DaVinci (the two most popular brands).  I would google shop the Torani - and make sure you pay attention to the bottle size as well as shipping costs.  I think one site has flat shipping - I believe it is called netrition.com or something similar.  I got a huge order from there for their flat shiping.

Ok... I need to ask. Why can't you cut up 1/4 cup of strawberries with 1/2 cup of 0% plain Greek yogurt?

They are ridiculously good for you and a go-to food for me.

1/4 cup of fresh is 13 calories and 2.9 g carbs.

Just asking...

I just started thinking about it, to be honest. I still haven't gotten as far as being able to handle 1/2 c of anything, but I can always put it away for left overs.

Then do 1/4 cup and 1/8th cup of strawberry maybe?

Takes me 30-45 min to make it through the 1/2 cup + 1/4 cup but it keeps me very happy.

Sounds like a plan to me! I'd been a little gun shy of trying fruits. My NUT had told me that there were more carbs and sugars in fruits and I should try to stay away from them. Then again, he DID say that he didn't care WHAT I ate, as long as I got my protein in first. *sigh* This is going to take a bit for me to get the hang of. lol

Look for low to medium GI fruits. A.k.a. Low to medium carb fruit.

Strawberries... Blueberries... Rhubarb... Blackberries... Raspberries... Cranberries...

Avoid dried fruits like mango, or raisins... sugar is too high.

Banana's are pretty high in carbs so I limit it to 1/2 if I really want it.

Cherries (especially tart cherries for anyone who gets gout - a handful a day can fix that)... It's my exception to the rule to have a little here and there because they can be so good for you.

I have this list saved:

Low Carb Diet Fruit

You're NOT going to eat 100g of these... So the numbers you are eating are even lower.
