In the picture when you have less hair well I have less hair than your less and I haven't starting losing it yet.  I'm assuming I'm gonna go bold since my hair is already thin.  Your recent picture looks great you sure have some thick hair that came back in!!  :-)

per my doc:  shock of surgery as well as the whole changing what we eat thing.  nothing to do about it, though you can take the biotin and stuff.  it's just going to happen and then it will stop.  many deep breathes and all those good ideas about hats!

I started losing about 3-4 months out. When I had surgery, I had very short thin hair. I have grown it out quite a bit since then. I pull my hair back a lot to cover the thinning front and top, but the baby hairs that are coming in stand up and give me a crew cut effect! I can't wear hats to work, so I have just been spraying down the crew cut and trying to manage it as much as possible. I had a losing stage , then a stage of regrowth, but I am noticing losing again, but not as bad as before. I hope I am nearing the end as I am 8 months out from surgery....but I have a hysterectomy scheduled for May...I hope I don't start over with the hair issues.

I can tell you this, every shower looked like I had shaved a baby sasquatch in  my tub!! It's probably going to happen to some degree. I think it does with most, those who don't get lucky. Just make fun of it! It's just hair, it will grow back! If it doesn't, invest in some pretty wigs! Wouldn't it be nice to change your look drastically every now and then without permanent results?? The gentlemen in your lives might appreciate you playing dress up and going from a red head, to a blonde, to jet black or brunette, for the fun times every now and then!! Might spice things up!!

Whatever happens, remember you did this to live longer and get healthier! Chin up!!

Thank you! That's exactly my point! So many people tremble in fear of the hair loss, but honestly, it's a small thing compared to everything we gain--and it grows back!

i have thin hair normally, i am a little over five months out and noticing around my left and right  sides of my crown above my face is getting so thin, i have been layering or feathering my hair so its not so noticeable when you look at me, I see it but no one else can really tell. I would do the surgery again  knowing this would happen. That's just me though.

I can see that the feathering would work. Good idea, if that fits the style of hair.

I am having drastic hair loss but not any more than I did years ago when I lost 140lbs without surgery. So , at least in my case, it's not the surgery that caused it, but the weight loss. That said, I don't really think someone being upset about hair loss means they would rather have hair and be fat. I don't mean to sound snippy, but we all care about all parts of our body, how we look, etc.

It's just sort of "human" to talk about it and look for support.

That said, my PCP, dermatologist and endocrinologist all said nothing helps. Our bodies are reacting to the drastic change and biotin, nioxin shampoos, etc make no difference. Only time helps. ;0(

I agree about it being human to want support.  I guess my form of support is to say, can't change it, figure out a way to deal with it!

And my point when I made the comparison is that looking at the big picture may help deal with the side effects that bother us. I'm sorry if I offended you.  It wasn't my intent.

You didn't offend me in the least. My intentions were good as well. Written communication can easily be misunderstood.
