Sugar Free Roasted Almonds

I just spent 2 days walking through a theme park smelling cinnamon roasted almonds around every turn. I came home and was still thinking about them. So I thought hey lets see if we can make a sugar free version, so here is what I did:

2 Cups of Raw or Natural Almond

3 to 4oz of Torani Caramel Syrup

Saigon Cinnamon

I put the almonds in a ziplock back and poured the syrup in  and shook it all up. Preheat oven to 400F and let the almonds sit. Then I sprayed a sheet pan with Pam when the oven was ready. Poured the almonds in the middle and flattened out to a single layer. I sprinkled the cinnomon over the almonds and baked them for 10 minutes. When done move to parchment or wax paper to cool. They didn't taste exactly like the sugary fair almonds but they had good flavor and definitely satisfied the craving.

I like savory stuff better than sweet.
I once tried almonds that had a savory, I almost want to say bbq flavor, but it wasnt. Soooo good. Any idea what they might have had on them??
Only since you mentioned almonds. Sorry to change away from your yummy sounding concoction.
By the way, how are your legs after all that walking???
Im so jealous, I live in Alaska, and we dont have fun stuff like that here.

Some day I am going to make it to Alaska. Maybe you can take me salmon fishing.  😎

You have better stuff like mountains and beautiful outdoors.one of mt bucket list items is to spend some time up there.      For savory almonds you could mix up some spice blends like my BBQ rub that might work. You could add a little bit of Splenda to make it a more try BBQ flavor.  Mrs. Dash also makes some blends like Fiesta Lime that might be pretty good. Basically instead of the syrup you would use a couple egg whites and the sprinkle the seasoning on after you spread out the almonds. Toss them in the pan an sprinkle again.    There are also lots of other spice blends you could try based on your tastes.

Keith maybe you should have added some Splenda to the cinnamon to help sweeten it up a little.

The Torani syrup is made from Splenda and it was sweet enough just not as sweet as the real deal. Plus the Saigon Cinnamon is a thermogenic so it promotes fat burn.

There are two types of cinnamon. Not sure about the other. I would need to do some research.

Also -- if you mix the seasonings with egg white, then put the nuts in the egg white mixture. You can add some splenda to it (along with the cinnamon) -- or make it a more savory mixture (just google something like spiced nuts).   The egg whites help the seasonings stick.

Thanks Keith for sharing your experiments!
