Fluid intake--Am I the only one

who ever wishes she had a "home iv fluid" kit and could just hook up to it every day to get in extra fluids?

Not really (ok, sort of really).  I am just tired of drinking all the time, but it does appear to be key to my weight loss.

Getting in fluids was tricky for me pre-op.  I just didn't drink much during the day.  Working to change that so I can meet or exceed the minimum daily.  Off to go down 2 cups before my breakfast protein shake!

Right there with you Sarah. I have bottles of water positioned everywhere in the house and in the car and at work.. even in the bathroom. I have to just sip all day long or I can go all day without. I usually manage the 64 oz but rare are those days that I actually go over. Not sure if IV fluids work the same way though. So if you hook yourself up it would probably lead to water gain rather than the wash out effect that drinking water seems to have. I don't know for sure. Just theory.. based on folks saying they have gained weight while in the hospital. So keep sipping!!

Fluids are my biggest struggle.  I have a daily goal of 80oz that I rarely meet.  I get close but only because I'm also counting the fluids with my protein shakes.  Otherwise, I wouldn't come close.  With that said, I'm still losing an average of 3-4 lbs a week.

IV fluids would work just as we'll as drinking. I think the thing with the hospital has more to do with the body reacting to the shock of surgery and anesthesia.
I had tore trouble yesterday (8 days post op) than I have had on other days, but I realized I lost an hour walking. Today, I will take a bottle with me so I don't have to stay up late drinking. And wouldn't that sound funny to an non-vsg person?!

Maybe I shouldn't chime in on this one, but I will.. I have no problem getting in 100 oz of water per day, occasionally more if I have a protein drink.  I have a specific plan every day;

12 oz hot tea on my drive into work

another 12 oz hot tea at my desk

then I have breakfast

Then I fill up 3, 24 oz bottles and place them at my desk, and just drink all day.  by the time I leave the office at 4:30 pm, I have 96 oz in, and lots of trips to the ladies room, which is ok, as that adds to my daily step goal. :)

the last 4oz + will come from water at the gym or later in the evening.

I think having a plan and having the bottles in front of me helps.  On the weekends, I prefill and take them with me in a little pink bag, I know that to stay on a losing track I have to finish this water, so I do.

That is a great idea! I love how you fill up the bottles and keep them there on your desk (although I am a nurse and that may cause a problem!).  I also am going to do the tea thing, I have a much easier time getting in hot liquids. I am doing great on my plan with the exception of my water! I am not good at getting in even 64 oz! Thanks for the tip!

I have a really hard time getting in fluids. I really like the way you broke it down. I am going to try the same thing. Thank you!!!!

I reuse the same plastic 24 oz bottles every day, they are not so big that it's daunting, but when finished with them, I'm more than halfway to daily goal.  The tea in the morning is a big help, it's decaf, and I get the RedRose Cinnamon Streusel, and add a tbsp of caramel sf syrup.  yummmmy.

Good luck, you can do it, it's now habit for me!
