If I have to eat a protein bar, I also use quest. Do you drink coffee? I have started mixing my protein powder in 1/4 c almond milk and adding that to 8oz of coffee. I add some ice and shake it up a bit. I love the taste. It takes me 30min to drink but really fills me up.

i got all my protein from food very early out.  My surgeon approved it because the shakes made me sick.  I can tolerate one now and then since I am 7 months out, but at first - it wasn't doable.  Getting enough protein from food in the early days takes a lot of dedication, but can be done.

Best to you - Annie

Definitely get your protein from food! It's honestly the best way to get it. Don't let what people on the board say keep you from doing what your surgeon suggests. Every plan is different, just like every person is different. At this point, you can eat, so there is NOTHING stating you HAVE to have shakes. I do because I tolerate them well, and it gets me to my goal. You do what YOU have to do, so long as you stay on plan with your surgeon. Good luck!

If you can't tolerate the protein shakes then get the protein from your food. You're far enough out you should be able to. Sounds like you're on the right track. Fish, meats, yogurt, eggs, etc. you keep working it. You can do this.

Well, you ask about the best protein bar, but if you are throwing up with shakes you shouldn't be eating bars. I would talk to your surgeon, you shouldn't be throwing up. But since you asked, best protein bar is Quest. So good I have to stay away from them, far away. Protein bars are too much like candy to me. But quest are the best!

I have three brands that I try to keep on hand. Premier protein (fiber version) available at Costco or Sams, Detour low sugar at Sams or Costco, and there is a Walmart brand that does a chocolate mint. I do try to select items that have 1 g of protein per 10 calories, and these don't quite measure up. But, I have found that in my classroom if I don't have those available I am very prone to hitting the sugar in the staff lounge, so a lesser of two evils type thing. They also carry well in a purse and make for a better choice then going through a McDonalds or something. My calories do tend to be a little higher on the days that I eat these, so just a warning. Conversely, the days I start with a protein shake are my best calorie days.
