The scoop on the poop

Oh man I've been there with you twice before. I thought I was going to die if I didn't **** soon. I recently bought those Quest protein bars, they have a ton of fiber. They made me go- that's for sure.
(TMI-Sorry)
Next time you get like that purchase Fleet Suppositories. You'll have to insert one into your rectum and lay down for 30-60 minutes or until you feel the urge to go. You will feel the urge, I promise. I've only had to do that once to myself- when I was praying for an epidural. Mainly, I use Philips Stool Softeners, I take 2-3 every 3rd day or so & those have always helped me out.
Severe constipation can be worse than childbirth.

Happy Pooping!!

Just FYI with the enemas... if she is impacted, you may not be able to use it. The mass blocks the way completely - at least it did for me, but it's worth trying for sure. I forgot about those, they do help sometimes too.

Agree. I was thinking more to soften the hard stool. We have even used soap suds enemas awhile back when it was popular in Labor and Deliver. We had a saying..." Put it high, make it hot and give em a hell of a lot"

Magnesium Citrate (not oxide).  I had to down a bottle last week (per surgeons office).  worked great.  BUT i am worried that it's been so long for you.  I hope it goes well.

Suppositories helped me. One time, I had to dig myself out. I know, TMI.

I saw a patient a couple of weeks ago, that had not had a decent BM in about 3 weeks, and I sent him to the ED. His stool was higher up and they gave him a solution that is used to clean out the bowels prior to having a colonoscopy done. It was helpful, but you need to work with your health care provider for long term maintenance .

Mag oxide is also helpful, when taken on a daily basis. Regular use of stool softners can be helpful. it will be better, when you can eat more veggies. Taking something like Benefiber on a regular basis will also help

That's exactly what happened to my best friend. She was so blocked that they couldn't see her organs or anything on her xray. She had to use the colonoscopy juice. (That's what I call it.)

momofmarch,

I am so concerned about you. I am concerned because it sounds like there is blood when you try, and you are thinking that a vessel has "popped" -- also you are saying that it feels like a softball like mass.

I am lovingly urging you to go to the emergency room. This evening. No, it is not pleasant, but I think an impaction crisis would be much, much worse -- and probably dangerous, too. I am concerned that you may be very close indeed to that.

Please, my friend, go to the ER. Let them subject you to the various indignities that they most surely will, and I bet you will be reporting to us that you are feeling much better.

Otherwise, I fear that you could be courting a very serious medical problem. It is not worth it to wait it out to find out if that is the case.

Love, Swizzlequeen

I am feeling incredibly grateful that I never had to deal with this.  Momomarch, I hope everything comes out ok- literally.
