Hijack....

Frisco, you must know that I live your "under eat your sleeve" motto. Every day! Best advice I've seen on this board since I started on this site as a pre-op 11 months ago.

Thank you!

So when people say, I have "good restriction" it means that it is "pushing back?"

I feel the pressure between the start of the neck and the sternum. Almost like food is not being completely swallowed, but not in a "OMG, I'm going to toss my cookies!" way.

Best way to go, without really have to test restriction, is under eating your sleeve. Search for Frisco's post on the subject. I'm 2 months out and haven't eaten more than 2 oz of any dense protein (2.5-3 oz on light fish).

Good luck and good questions!

You will find out what your capacity is just by accident for a while.

I would think...... speaking for myself and others I've talked to.... you might eat 2oz. of chicken..... and start to feel pressure.... that's it.... your done.... that's your capacity and your restriction.

The key is to always eat "under" your capacity. You no longer have that stretchy fundus/stomach to eat more and more....

Think of your restriction as an "electric fence" of sort.....

Capacity and restriction mean about the same thing as far as VSG goes.....

Hope this helps....

Frisco, I love your pyloric valve 101 post; I learned a lot from it.

But have you learned of any additional vegetarian foods that close the pyloric valve? As a vegetarian, I'm not finding a lot of dense proteins, so I don't get that longer feeling of satiety that meat eaters get with chicken and other meats.

Thanks for any further words of wisdom!

Sorry.... Not way up on veg meals so much.
My first suggestion would be to talk to DrC and Gabriella..... What I've learned about vegetables and satiety has come from DrC.
My thought is that you might try eating very undercook or raw veggies first, than non meat proteins. That's just a guess.
The key is to consume harder to digest foods so your stomach/sleeve has to "pre digest" by closing the pyloric valve and break down the foods with acids. This is the basis for prolonged satiety in "general"
For me, veggies like broccoli stalk and cucumbers w/skin are the most effective.

The other thing is kind of higher level and something I've been working in this last year or so.....it has to do with identifying the feeling of the food after it has passed the pyloric valve for longer sense of satiety. DrC explains it as a hormonal reaction as food nears the ileum and ileal brake (I'm sure the spelling is off... iPhone doesn't know those words). But without even having those explanations I've been pretty good at feeling satisfied long after the food has past the pyloric valve. I tend to eat 4-6 hours apart without any major hunger.... Maybe a 3 in a 10 point scale.

I used to eat every 2-4 hours, but found myself getting hungry faster.

I know it's kinda confusing and I'm probably not explaining it well. If you would like we can chat about it offline a bit more in depth. But first I'd get DrC's take on it....
