I am starting back (year break) to kickboxing boot camp. My estimate is about 500-600 calories per workout. Since I am only i taking about 600 calories each day, would you recommend a certain amount of intake before the workout ( it is early in the morning 6 days per week)

Thanks!
Anne

I used to kickbox at a martial arts studio at the end of the day.  It was pretty intense. I noticed that fatty foods from lunch made me want to throw up. Now I go to the gym in the morning. I focus on intensity because I don't like long workouts anymore. I say eat a light snack, but not too fatty. Allow yourself 3 days to get it right.  That means, be prepared to stop if you feel faint and have an emergency snack in the car.

-almond butter with third of an apple

-reduced fat cheese stick (Sargento is the only one that tastes like cheese to me) with reduced fat wheat thins, part of an apple, or part of a sliced red pepper.

Yes, I would have a little carb.  The key for me was to not eat too much because I don't want my body focused on digestion.  But if I don't eat something before the gym in the morning, I will fade out. But I don't need much.  I had half a cheese stick and  some red pepper slices the other day.  I eat the snack as soon as I woke up to let some time pass before I got to the gym 30 minutes later.

I do an intense boot camp class at 6 a.m., and I do it on an empty stomach.  It may not work for everyone, but it works for me!

I do not like to eat to soon before a work out. I have to have at least an hour (preferably 90 minutes) after eating before working out. If I eat too soon before a workout, especially an intense one, I get really uncomfortable in my chest and stomach during the workout and feel like I need to vomit. It's pretty gross and hard for me to give it my all when I feel that way.

My advice: Have a protein shake about an hour before hand. It won't weigh you down and it will provide the protein and calories you need to fuel your workout.
