The Idaho Plan Report
I'm back from Idaho. It wasn't nearly as bad as I'd expected, mainly because my MIL is now taking anti-depressants AND hubby's grandmother "didn't have time" to see us except on Thursday (wtf?, but good for me).
I ate on plan the entire week, even the 4th, when we were at Grandma's house all day and her menu consisted of: fried chicken, macaroni salad, potato salad, baked beans, macaroni & cheese, rolls, ice cream, and chocolate caramel walnut brownies. It was such a carbohydrate nightmare I almost laughed. Fortunately, I'd brought my own food. I was a little surprised there wasn't an actual vegetable or at least a salad, but I survived.
I went for a run before we left on Monday, then again on Wednesday and Friday. I ended up not going to the gym while we were there because I didn't feel the need to escape and I got my 3 runs in for the week. I did go on several walks, usually with other people, but it was hot and muggy for much of our time there. I played 2 games of croquet on the 4th, but I doubt that burned many calories. :) So, of our "non driving" days I got over 10,000 steps half the time--not quite my goal, but I felt good about my exercise level while we were there.
I felt really good about the trip in general and was looking forward to stepping on the scale this morning.
Except that, when I did, it said THE EXACT SAME NUMBER IT SAID LAST WEEK. Seriously. I must have gotten off and back on at least 20 times. I usually weigh myself every day, so the idea that I'd see an entire week's loss at once, plus knowing how many calories I burned vs. ate while there, was pretty darned exciting to me. To say I was disappointed doesn't even cover it. I felt (and still feel) really good about how well I stuck to plan while I was there. My calorie counts are as accurate as I can make them with dining out in non-chain places, and I made good decisions with the possible exception of Friday night (which wasn't bad, just a bit high in fat and still within my calorie/carb range for my plan). I ate fewer vegetables than normal, but I tried to stay hydrated. The one big difference is I had a cup of coffee every day because I was tired and tired + driving is not good.
All I can think is that the travel/sitting in the car/coffee has me retaining water. I sure hope so, because this is NOT what I expected.
The good news is my "reward" was tied to my behavior, not to the scale, so I still get to go shopping with Elina. Elina, let's pick a time and get me some new undies!!!
Yay, Sarah! Win!!
Give it a couple of days. I'm joining you in thinking it's fluid retention. Still, let's focus on the many things you did to stick with your plan and cope with a big trip there!

Going away and being a bit stressed out before you went and coming home to NO gain is great. Your loss will show up. You did great! Have fun shopping!
Welcome to post op reality......
Like Elina says..... three days and you'll be down a few pounds..... has happened to me about 72 times..... travel seems to always do it to me...
