3 months post-op & lovin' life!
3 months ago I underwent my first ever surgery. To have 85% of my stomach removed. If you told me that even 1 yr ago that I would consider this I would have thought you crazy. But things change. After a physical last summer I told my doc I needed to do something about my weight and all of the co-morbidities. He reluctantly referred me to the WLS program. And within 3 weeks I was sitting in a room with about 100 other obese men and women. During that seminar I nearly walked out a half dozen times and wiped away tears for the entire hour. I drove home in tears. I cried to my husband that I couldn't believe the I 'let' it get this far that I was considering surgery. ParisBoy, in all his wisdom, said "Go to the appts., listen to the docs, do your own research and the answer will come to you." And it did.
9 months later I am happy, getting healthy and down 60.8 lbs since surgery.
I have made what I consider to be life-long friends, even if not IRL (yet!). These people (you MFPers and OHers know who you are!!
) have lifted me up, supported me, cheered me on and made me laugh...a lot!
If I can give a noob, or anyone really, a piece of advice it's:
- Create a presence here and on MFP, if you log (AND YOU SHOULD). BEST thing I did! It's great to build a community of support and like minded individuals.
- RESEARCH!!! Go back to page 1 on this board and read. Read it all! All of the questions have been asked and answered. If your center does not have a detailed food plan, there are guidelines found on these pages. Granted, we are not doctors and RD's, but there's a lot of proven plans and techniques posted by some very knowledgeable and inspiring people.
Thank you for your support and friendship. It's made all of the difference!!
