Did any of you come off Insulin after getting the Sleeve

I take four insulin shots a day.  My parathyroid is dead and I have issues absorbing calcium and magnesium.  I also have low testosterone.  I want the full gastric bypass but I'm afraid I won't be able to absorb enough calcium to live healthy.  Did any of you come off insulin and diabetes pills following the sleeve.  I really want to return to the trucking industry someday but can't if I'm taking insulin.  Any help would be appreciated.

I was sleeved 6-25.  Before surgery, I was on Bydeureon (non-insulin injectible) and glipizede, and still had uncontrolled numbers.  I quit taking the meds 2 weeks before surgery when I did my pre-op liquid diet.  My sugars were a little high (to me) in the hospital, but with the constant IV, that was expected.  Since then, my numbers have been beautiful!  70-80's around the clock.

This is just my experience.  I wasn't on insulin, but I was quickly heading in that direction.  I figured I had a 50/50 shot, as diabetes is rampant on both sides of my family.   I fully expect my next A1C to be in the normal range.

I wish you the best of luck!

Can only tell you what I have heard...that if you've been on insulin longer than 10 yrs, probably will always be on it...but probably less.

Hubby has been on insulin for about 15 yrs....5 shots (2 long acting, 3 at meals)...he has stopped taking metformin, and the shots at meal time...he's cut the long acting Lantus from 70 units to 35.  This happened within 3 months of his getting sleeved.  also off blood pressure and beta blocker (for cholesterol). He's almost 4 months out, so we will see if he comes off more meds.  He's lost about 75 lbs.

best of luck in whatever you decided!

Thanks everyone, I've only been on Insulin for three years.  Hopefully I will be able to kick it to the curb forever.

I took Medformin twice a day and 1 Bydeurin shot a week and my numbers were always 110 and higher.  After surgery I am off all meds and my numbers run around 80 or lower.  No regrets!!!!

I am 8 months out. Before sleeve was up to 150 units (4 shots a day). Was on insulin for 2 yrs. Now take 2 shots a day, 15 units each. Still take 2000 ml metforin also. I have lost 80 lbs. last endo visit she said I probably would not get off of the insulin. Since I had this surgery to get off of insulin, this part is a real disappointment. My A1C is still way too high 8.3. If this does not improve I will probably have to increase the insulin.

Best of luck to you.
