My 6 year surgiversary.....Grateful is an understatement!
Lexie, not to speak for OP, but just wanting to help out- I'm a 5 year vet, and I can answer that from my experience, it will be a lifetime endeavor. I still track food and exercise, although I eat a bigger variety of foods. I still avoid the carbs, focus on proteins, weigh myself everyday, exercise, try and get my water in. It has to become a lifestyle. But life happens, people go on vacation, you get injured or just tired of always "watching", and I have had a few times when I've gained back a few pounds. But thanks to our tool, I get back on the ball, and I'm usually back within my comfort zone in a couple of weeks. Good luck!

Hi Lexie!
I could talk surgery and everything all day today! :-)
My lowest weight was right after goal at 135. I currently am 143. I stay right around 140-145. I haven't gained more than that in 6 years.
I still watch what I eat. PROTIEN first! I still after all this time have my morning protien/coffee. I only do a 1/2 portion of "bad foods" but I do indulge in them now. I was very very strict post-op. The eating choices aren't too much of a struggle but I know I will not go back to the choices I made before surgery. I am a diabetic and now health is so much more important to me now. teaching my children how to eat for fuel is more important to me.
I walk our family dog for exersize, I am not a big exerciser, so what goes into my mouth is even more important.
How you are doing? Are you still recording foods? Are you still getting plenty of water in?

Highest: 249
Day of Surgery: 223
Current after 6 years of surgery: 143
Total lost.......................PRICELESS
I am type 1. that is/was my reason for surgery. I was using 100ish units of insulin in my pump daily before surgery. I never went into remission, however I now after 6 years only use about 40 units a day. It is also much easier to control a high protein diet.

Hey!
thanks so much for sharing. I'm down to 125 from 226 right now, goal is 115-119, I'm 4' 10". I don't log religiously anymore but I usually eat the same things everyday and can most times keep a count in my head of where I'm at calorie/carb wise. I also weigh myself every day too. I definitely believe in that. I try to walk a couple miles every day but I'm not a gym/workout person. I'm thinking about buying a treadmill soon. My biggest struggle right now is sweets. Pre surgery, i was a salty eater. Now post surgery, I developed a killer sweet tooth that craves anything sweet/sugary and most of all, chocolatey, all the time. I'm like, Who is THIS person?! LOL I have NO idea where it came from! So I fight everyday to not go overboard with that. Beyond that, I'm pretty comfortable with my everyday greek yogurts, meat and veggie type meals. I've noticed a greater capacity now but as long as I stick to my dense proteins, I'm good. I realize that I make the decision everyday to eat the right things. It's out of habit but also purposely done at the same time too, if that makes any sense. Like, I decide to eat the protein bar instead of a bag of chips or cookies for a snack, etc. I guess thought will have to go into this everyday for the rest of my life. I always say I will never be a "normal" skinny person. I've accepted that. But I guess even some small people conscientiously eat more healthy than not too so...
