I'm going to be thiiiiiiiis close to a Trader Joe's on Friday -- i.e. civilization -- and it'll also be payday.  Woohoo!   Any recommendations for sleeve-friendly groceries from there which maybe aren't available from normal grocery stores?  I think Frisco has mentioned a marinara sauce or something similar from there.

FWIW I am about to hit maintenance or maybe have hit it already, so I have a little leeway in calories.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.   It may seem pathetic that a visit to Trader Joe's seems like a cool thing to do, but to a girl from the sticks ...  :)

We love TJ's! My typical shopping list includes sprouted 7 grain bread (its LOW carb @ 7grams per slice), Parmesan cheese, veggies, nuts, lean meats...but I generally buy all of my fish/seafood there. It is wild caught and frozen and cut into small portions already. Happy shopping!

I buy: Turkey jerky

Crab-stuffed flounder filets

Mahi mahi burger patties

Shredded Brussels sprouts

Chicken sausages: herb garlic flavor

Those are the staples I get from there. Have fun!

I've got like 4 of them in my freezer right now, haha!  They are so good!  Half of one with a side of broccoli = perfect dinner!

I get so much stuff from Trader Joe's! Stuff in my typical diet I get from them: turkey bacon, turkey chili, turkey meatballs, turkey hot dogs, turkey jerky (I sense a theme here), spicy buffalo chicken meatballs, spicy jalapeno chicken sausage, liquid egg whites, balela salad, sardines, canned smoked trout, refried black beans, babybel cheeses (best prices in town), frozen cauliflower & romanesco in garlic butter, frozen wild organic blueberries and raspberries (put a quarter cup in a protein shake to bump up the flavor and your fiber intake for the day), shredded Swiss & Gruyere cheese, sliced light Havarti cheese, sublingual B12, and chewable High Potency Multivitamins.

They do have lots of really good frozen fish, chicken burgers, etc. but I don't seem to like frozen meat.

Their frozen stuff is seriously so good.  You can buy just about anything and luck out.  I really like their frozen veggies.  The frozen fire grilled asparagus spears are awesome.  I also really like the frozen chili lime chicken burgers.  All their cheeses, dips and sauces are excellent as well.  I like to buy pesto and roasted red peppers from TJ's.  In the fresh veggie section, shaved brussel sprouts are my favorite.  I like to saute them with a little bacon or panchetta.   Yum!

I actually haven't made a TJ's trip in a while and I think now one is in order!  lol

band to sleeve revision and loving life!

I get the Pomodoro sauce and the Three Cheese......

Both are pretty low carb...... bottles are kinda big...... I portion into quarters and freeze in zip lock freezer bags.

Great spice selections.....

*edit: I also like the Pork Loin....... pre-package in just over a pound. Roast whole or slice of medallions.

My shopping list sounds a little boring, but works for me.  I have to stay on a very low sodium diet due to another medical condition which has nothing to do with weight.  they have lots of no salt products...tuna, salmon, marinara sauce and fire roasted salsa.  I always stock up on the fresh veggies.  Love the power greens and all the green veggies.  The leeks come trimmed which is a time saver.   The frozen foods look good, but are too high in sodium for me.  Very well priced and you can get organic stuff there.  Whole Foods is much more expensive.  I save that trip for special items.

i LOVE trader joe's and shop there regularly.  if you know what you typically pay for staples, be sure to check the prices at TJ's.  i've found that many staples, such as eggs, cheese, etc., are cheaper at TJ's than at my traditional grocery store.  i'm only 16 days post-op, but on the recommendation of someone here, i picked up a pack of turkey meatballs.  they are SO good!  with only 100 calories for 2 meatballs and 14g protein, they have become my new favorite meal!
