Satiety........ the next level.....
Satiety is a word that can have many meanings......
Basically it means to cancel out hunger.
I am in the process of writing a multi level report for my surgeon on Satiety post VSG from my personal experience and from some people in my group.
What has become very clear to me is that Satiety is not only physical....... there is a huge mental part to it and if your recognize both, your state of satiety can be much stronger.
Thinner people tend to eat till satisfaction or state of Satiety than eat again when hungry...... Obese people tend to eat to maintain Satiety.
Today I had a pretty clear example of what this post is about.....
I decided I wanted to go "Mall Walking" in a warm indoor mall for some cardio. (Mall Walking 101 will be a whole post on it's own)
I had lunch before I left for the mall...... didn't' want to be tempted by the Corn Dog on a Stick "Mall Food Court" temptations...... during WL food courts should be avoided completely....... just not good...... during maintenance there are some less than desirable choices.
I took a couple small Romaine spears and coated them with a Greek yogurt/Sriracha mix....... added some cold shredded roasted chicken...... topped with a little shredded cheese.....
Hit the spot (Satiety) delicious, on plan, under my capacity/calories and satisfied......
Satiety has many levels, this example shows:
- Proper food, proper amount at the proper time....
Now here is the "Kicker".......
Ya see, there is a mental component to"Satiety/Satisfaction"
Knowing that I'm eating on plan gives me/you a greater sense of Satiety....... a reinforcement.....
I ate on plan and I was heading out for some exercise and feeling very satisfied that I'm doing "my part" .........
Now if I didn't buy anything at the mall, it would have been all perfect !!! (downside to mall walking)

Interesting that you should post about this today. I was just thinking about the same - more or less - topic. I am trying to come to grips with satiety and satisfaction versus feeling 'full', you know, like full before - more like stuffed. That used to trigger the satiety button for me and I was not satisfied until I had to literally roll away from the table holding on to my stomach. Now I am trying to undereat my capacity which is fine because I don't feel hunger so that is not the issue but the satiety and satisfaction meter inside my head is still set to 'stuffed' which is different to what it was before in quantity but the physical sensation of fullness is something I want to get away from. I don't need it. I know that. So I am trying to connect with my satisfied feeling of just taking in enough and trying to mentally link that to satiety and that trigger that will tell me that it is not only OK to stop now but it feels good. Any ideas as to how to connect these dots?

I still have the issue of " I am allowed (supposed) to eat this much to make certain targets for the day, so I feel I "have to eat it" This is really hard for me as I am where I am happy weight wise, My whole thought process needs reset. I am kind of rigid. But how do I do that? These target for calories, carbs protein etc, are reasonable and based on what I have learned here with input from my nut
Anne.
This is a great post!!! I already knew I was going to be taking the minions to Disneyland yesterday. THANK GAWD they let you bring outside food in. I was planning ahead as I should but I wasn't always doing this before. I brought turkey pepperoni crisps, WW smoked string cheese & a Quest Bar (seriously I had to bring that protein bar ... nothing else comes close to satisfying when there are ice cream carts all over the place!). I actually felt like I was able to enjoy the good eats like everyone else there ... just not in the form of ice cream, churros, popcorn, & hot dogs.
Not exactly what you did but I also like to practice what you do when I know I'm going to be out running errands or going to the mall. Eat before I leave ALWAYS HELPS.
So you like Hot Dog on a Stick? I used to LOVE with a Capital "L" the "cheese on a stick" american cheese or pepper jack, it didn't matter, heck it was 1 of each pre-VSG ... LORD.....
We need to keep this in mind, especially if we still have holiday shopping to do!!!
Perfect timing on this post frisco because I have holiday shopping to do all weekend.
