Are they overweight and jealous of your decision to get healthy?

Well, I'm excited for  you! It's truly a life changing experience. I haven't yet started my exercise program and after 9 weeks (including pre-op diet) I am down 3 dress sizes. I went from a 24W to a 18W.

You are going to be amazed at how great it is to sit on the losers bench! This time next year you will be much farther along on your weight loss journey and that's something that is super excellent.

Ignore the people that can't be bothered. Focus on yourself and your husband and kids and let the rest go and become the healthiest happiest you that you can be.  You're worth it!

well...I decided not to tell anyone but extremely close friends (and hubby of course)...others (mostly family! LOL) found out after the fact....I did not think I would get the support/understanding I would have liked (through past experience of course).  If your family happens to be overweight themselves, they aren't going to like that you are upsetting the apple cart....the 'pecking order' will change, if you know what I mean.

are they generally not supportive, or is it just now, with the surgery?  if just now, they may be scared/worried for you.

best i can tell you is come here to vent and find support.  if it weren't for this site, I never would have gone through with the surgery.  I am ssssooo happy I did.  I never had any other surgery before (except dental), not even childbirth, so was not at all thrilled about voluntarily having surgery....I put one foot in front of the other, did what I felt I had to do, and came out of it just fine :)

prob good to see a therapist too - this is your journey and you need to build the right support  - your family will get there.  it took mine a while and to be honest they werent the people i needed to share my fears with :)

Find a local support group if possible.  If not, focus every bit of your extra energy inward and do you.  They'll  surely be talking a year from now when you are fit and healthy.  Support is good but this is a very personal journey as well.  Best wishes!

They might be scared for you, so don't want to talk about the possibilities.  Or, they might just not relate!  If you started a new hobby, let's say pottery class for example, it might excite you so much that you want to share it with your loved ones, right?  About getting that exact mix right for the wheel, or the perfect glaze you achieved...unless they've taken a pottery class, they're just not going to get it.  They want to support you, but most of the time don't have a clue what you're talking about.  Plus, men are fixers, and he can't fix this for you, so he probably feels pretty helpless at this point.

The good news is that's what you have us for!  We've all been through our own version of the journey, so we can relate.  Hang in there - one day you'll feel "normal" because of all the work you put into getting there!

Bearz, Not sure where you live or where you are going to have surgery done.  I live in Western NC and will be having surgery at Mission hospital here and they have fantastic support group meeting.  You may be able to meet up with people in your area by getting with them on this site.  Even if you don't meet you could email support to one another.  Just want you to know, you aren't alone.  Just think of all of us on here as your friends and weight loss family.  We care about how you do.  Hope all goes well and will be looking for you on here.  Merry Christmas
