When should I start hitting the gym?  When did people start lifting some weights?  I am 3 weeks out today.  I think I should be able to do the bike and treadmill???

When i was going to the gym, I started the 2nd day I came home from the hospital.  I was released to run/elliptical at 2 weeks (but I didn't do them because I don't like them) and lifting weights after 6-8 weeks.  At this point (3 weeks), I was told to do anything I felt like doing but no twisting or turning because I was still healing.

You can walk on the treadmill now. But you should wait 6 weeks for normal exercise and 8 weeks for any heavy lifting. You do not want to risk herniating your incisions points.

What Keith said!  My doc didn't want me lifting any weights for 6 weeks but okayed me for light cardio after the first week.

I was back in the gym 1 week postop. I walked on the treadmill and the elliptical. I was not released to start lifting weights until 6 weeks out.

My doc told me walking only for 6 weeks and specifically said no elliptical (my favorite) for 6 weeks.  Sad times, I so much rather elliptical than walk!
