New Year- Amendment....
My first couple of years post-op I was thrilled that I wasn't making yet another New Years "resolution" to lose weight and have it go out the window by week one and face another year of frustration about my weight.
This is not a bad thought and probably very common and normal for someone still in recovery/discovery.
This year my thoughts have changed up a bit......
I am 2 months into my 5th year and solidly into 3 years of maintenance.
My thoughts about strategy and New Years have evolved a little bit. It's not a "resolution" type mentality...... it's more of a "amendment to the contract".....
This year I feel the need to:
- re-group
- re-connect
- re-establish
- re-define
- re-commit
Starting a new chapter feels very appropriate.
It seems a good time to take it to the next level. I have 2014 plans to take my culinary/nutrition efforts to a mainstream audience.
I have much more to learn about the VSG from my surgeon as a surgery and how to get the most out of it, both physically and mentally.
I have much more to learn about nutrition for both WLS patients and normies from my RD.
I have much more to learn about myself and how I need to always stay connected to the process and keep this weight off for life and stay active.
Happy New Year to all !!!
Remember:
- Build a strong foundation
- Under Eat your capacity
- Learn up on the pyloric valve and it’s function
- Commitment & Compliance
- Moderation is the most dangerous word in Weight Control

Isn't it great that we have the resources to help accomplish all that you mentioned above? I agree with everything you wrote and look forward to expanding my knowledge of what I feel is a miracle procedure. I am in such a great place starting out this New Year because I don't need to beat myself up over the same resolutions I made year after year.

I'm excited to see what you do with your culinary/ nutrition efforts - I think there is definitely room for more information/ teaching opportunities!
I'm excited for the first time ever on New Year's Day to recommit to this process. Last year at this time- I was contemplating the sleeve & feeling generally hopeless in my efforts to lose weight- what a difference a year makes! Now on to recommitment & finishing this journey to goal!
Keep on educating us
Very helpful post. Simply words that mean a lot. Under Eat your capacity. It makes so much sense. I also did learn some about the pyloric valve. I know we are suppose to eat our protein first, but did not know the extent to how this can really help with feeling full longer. Something I have been struggling a bit with lately. So eating some protein for breakfast rather than drinking a protein shake would be better? I eat a lot of fish and have noticed that I don't feel as full as when I have a turkey burger. Thanks for the information.
