This is interesting, in knowing how this works, though you are not a Dr. your explanation is a great source of inspiration to get back to basics and back on track. I have been on a downward spiral for too long and this has put things in perspective and makes me want to re-focus and get this party started again. Thanks Frisco for the push ... :)
I remember reading this when I was pre-op and again immediately post-op. It helped me to figure out that 30 minutes post-prandial was not enough time for me to begin drinking again. Now I wait at least an hour, if not more, before drinking again. And when I'm not eating I'm drinking so I can hit my target of 120 oz of water daily.
Thanks for reposting this, Frisco...we all need the reminder, no matter where we are along this path.
So I have a question...I had my staples out on Tuesday and also had an upper GI that the Dr. let me watch as was doing it. He pointed out what was going on as I drank the small amount of barium. Now, when I drank it and it went down, the plyoric valve closed, and you could see just a small amount dribbling through. Why was that? The barium is a liquid, so shouldn't it pass right through? Is this because I'm so newly post-op?
I wouldn't know how to answer that question......
So cool you got to see it !!!
I'm gonna ask my surgeon....

Ok Frisco I LOVE this post & thank you as I know you were helping me. ;)
my question is when do you recommend that new VSGers begin dense protein? I'm opposite of yesterday's issue. Today so far have only been able to get down 1 cup of cottage cheese & 1 protein shake. I'm giving her a rest & focusing on water.
Thanks again,
Lori
My math says that your 17-18 days post op......
That is a question for your surgeon and no one here is qualified to guide you on that.
The only thing I will say is that longer is better than shorter, dense protein is when you start to introduce internal pressure to your sleeve and stress to the staple line.
