Help!
Hi Everyone, I am new to the forum, although I have been stalking for a few weeks. I had my surgery two weeks ago and was just released to begin exercising yesterday. I have been feeling and doing great! Unfortunately, tonight I slipped on the ice and broke my ankle! I am now on crutches for the foreseeable future, possibly looking at another surgery to pin my ankle back together. My question is, what are some good exercises I can do without bearing weight on my right leg. I really want to take advantage of my first few months and continue to lose fat and gain muscle!
Talk with your orthopedic dr. Maybe he'll have you work with a physical Therapist that can give you exercises. You can def. start working on upper body. Just don't use weights until you're a little further out. Probably chair exercises until your ankle heals. You can probably add weights at 4-6 weeks. Check with your orthopedic dr. & surgeon.
Keith L. is our exercise guru so hopefully he can give you some exercise tips. Repost your questions on the below link so he can get it directly.

I hope you can find exercises that will work for. Please make sure that you do not overdo it so that you can heal properly. I did not start exercising until 2 months after my surgery and I was able to lose 26 pounds month 1 and 14 pounds month 2. Don't get discouraged if you're unable to workout the way you would like. Your healing is more important. You will lose the weight if you stick to your diet.
There are different schools of thought on exercise. You are going to get exercise by walking around on your crutches and you will use muscles that you are not use to using. Do to your cir****tances you are going to have to make sure that you are following your eating plan to the "T" since you will not be able to go out and do extra exercise to burn the extra calories you eat. There are many people that have been successful at losing weight and not exercising. They have learned that they need to control their food because exercise is just not for them. Others exercise a lot but eat more to keep up their energy but if they quit doing the exercise they will have to cut back their caloric intake which is not always easy. Concentrate on your eating and your head for the next few months while you recuperate and you will do just fine.
I am sorry you broke your foot but don't think that all is lost, you can still be very successful!
Thank you everyone for the support! I saw the ortho today and was told that although my ankle is broken, it is the "best" kind of break and I should be able to bear weight on it in a couple of weeks, and be fully healed in about six weeks. This is a huge relief, I was concerned it was gonna be months. I am looking up chair exercises and have been doing well at sticking to my plan, diet wise. And, Hislady, you are sooo correct! I haven't ever used crutches before and holy cow do they wear me out! Mother nature is helping me out too, I have no desire to get out and walk in the blizzard we have going on in upstate NY right now! Stay warm!
