Hello All!

For those of you who use FSA to pay for their medical needs have you asked your wls surgeon to prescribe exercise equipment like a treadmill or elliptical machine? I was going through the eligible purchases list and to my surprise I saw that if your doctor writes a letter of medical necessity you could pay for a machine with your FSA card benefits. Has anyone been able to do this successfully? If so, what did you have to do or what should the letter state?

You might was to double check that.  I believe it's governed by federal law and I know it doesn't cover gym memberships.  You'd think exercise equipment would fall into the same category.

All plans are different.  Mine covers my gym membership as long as a dr. prescribes exercise for a medical condition.

My surgeon said he would write me a prescription for a treadmill desk if I wanted it. Unfortunately I don't have room in my apartment for even a treadmill, much less one with a desk attached, so it's a moot point. And that's about as far as I got.

Interesting! I don't have an FSA, but I do have an HSA (Health Savings Account) and I'm going to look into my plan. I'm interested in using it for my Y membership. I am planning on ending it at the end of Feb to save some $$ and just start working out at home, but if I'm allowed to use my HSA I will.
