Sleeved today...question about hunger pains and gas
Hi everyone! So I did it! I had surgery this morning at 730. My tummy was growling so bad before I went in. I was so looking forward to coming out not hungry at all! But to my dismay it's still growling! However I think icy might be gas instead of hunger pains. Almost every time it growls it turns into a burp. It's driving me nuts because it makes me want to eat. Anyway I just wondered if anyone else has had this or has any thoughts.
other than that my first day has been great. Not that much pain. Can drink water just fine. Had lots of rest today and lots of fun visitors. Can't complain!
I am so glad you decided to go thru with the surgery! It is normal to have a lot of rumbles and strange sensations in the beginning. Make sure your surgeon has put you on an antacid right away like Prilosec or Zantac or one of the many others. Good luck and welcome to the loser's bench!
Thank you! I'm glad I did too! I was just afraid of dying. Once I got here and openly discussed all my fears wither every doctor and nurse that I came into contact with, they made me feel very at ease!
Yes my my doc has me on all that stuff! I will ask him about it tomorrow and see if there's anything else that it could be or maybe I just will need to wait it out.
One of the best lessons I've learned in dealing with medical anxiety is this - tell every medical person who will listen since they're AWESOME at putting patients to ease :D

I've got the exact same sensations!! And for the 2 weeks were I had shakes for lunch and dinner, I had no problems and very few hunger pangs. Of course, though, the morning of surgery (3 days ago), I was STARVING! LOL! Yesterday I was actually feeling hungry, but looking at food didn't do anything for me. I was actually content with the liquified vanilla shake I got and the juices they gave me. And my pangs turned into burps, too.
And I had the same fear of dying. I had no problems with the surgery or anything that may come up because of it…but I have a 14 and 16 year old daughter…and THAT was my only fear.
I'm jealous you got a vanilla shake! I have to stay on clear liquids for a week!
I totally understand your fear! I have a 4yr old and 20 month old. They need their mommy! Glad we both made it! :)
food do doesn't sound good to me either. But I am enjoying my breakfast of jello, broth, and crystal light! Never thought I'd enjoy a breakfast like that!lol
Congratulations on your new life journey. I had mine done a month ago and I remember feeling the growling hunger right after surgery. I didn't really want to eat or drink because everything tasted awful, even water, but I managed through it. I kept feeling that hunger feeling for a while and in fact, still sometimes do. But now the difference is that it is now it is more easily satisfied AND it isn't overwhelming like it was. The first days are full of strange sensations, not bad, but different. I think they'll go away, at least mine did and now I feel pretty normal.
Good luck on your recovery.
