Lexapro?

After the past couple of months going through crazy anxiety and binge attacks due to stress and trying to not cope it with food, I went and saw my doctor. He prescribed me Lexapro, assuring me it will not make me gain weight. Has anybody had any side effects of weight gain from Lexapro? I am still 30 pounds away from goal and will do anything to get there!! Of course, I know my mental well being is important as well, but don't want to gain anything!

Thanks for all replies!

I am a psych nurse and a few of my patients are on Lexapro and there is not any significant weight gain they have experienced, however , everyone metabolizes drugs differently.  As you know sometimes people under stress & anxiety don't eat or overeat so when they start on the med thry either lose or gain.... I hope that makes sense or some just go unchanged! Good news is it starts working usually within a few weeks so you should feel better soon and be back on track. A healthy mind makes for a healthy body

I have been on lexepro for 7 months 10 mg a day...I don't suffer from anxiety at all.and things don't go from A -Z any more lol.. I did put on about 30 pounds since I have been on it but I was under stress lost a friend to cancer ..dad was sick then he got cancer then recovery blah blah so I'm not sure if it was lexepro or just my life ..but I was able to handle all those problems with out going crazy ..just was sad ..  my sleeve is sceduled for Monday so I'm not sure how it will react with my lexepro .good luck.  It's good stuff

I have been on 20mg Lexapro for years...I have tried many other drugs for anxiety and have had weight gain, but NOT with Lexapro. I do not have the generic (I tried that and it had no effect on my anxiety) So I pay full price for the Name Brand.

My only complaint is it tastes awful when crushed!

Good Luck!

Are you currently seeing a therapist?  That can really help a person to figure out new coping skills especially in conjunction with an ssri!

Only my experience: I have taken anti-depression meds for years and continue to take them. I know that taking meds never contributed to my weight gain. I am very satisfied with my loss so far. Perhaps I have to work a little harder but it is worth it. Take care!

I took it about 5-6 years ago and yes, I did gain weight-about 40 lbs.  Not sure why but I did.

I take Celexa...same active ingredients only cheaper.  It hasn't caused me any weight gain.  I have been able to lower my dose since losing weight.  I was taking 3 pills a day.  Now I'm down to 2.  Yay!

I take 3 anti depressants and two anxiety meds.  They are all considered weight neutral.  IF lexepro causes you to gain weight I highly recommend a new drug called Latuda.

I'm on Celexa which is the older version of Lexapro...I've been on it for 8 months and found it to be weight neutral :-)
