Great!  Thank you very much!  I already gave my therapist a heads up that I was having surgery, since I'll be missing my March massage as a result.

I would double check with your surgeon's office on the timeframe surrounding the massage and when they feel it is appropriate.

For me, I loved massages before when I was heavier. I had a lot of back issues. I have only had one massage since all my weight loss and it was PAINFUL...ugh, I am guessing I do not need as intense pressure as I did when I was heavy. That is the only thing I would suggest, thing about that when you do go. I felt like I got beat up later on after LOL

I used to get deep tissue massages and would always feel battered for days afterward.  So now I go for softer massages.  :/  But I will definitely ask my surgeon - good idea!

You should be fine but they can always use a massage chair instead of laying down flat.

Sadly my therapist doesn't have a massage chair, just a table.  Otherwise, that could work!

I bought a groupon for a massage before surgery. I was intending to use it before 2/20 but ran out of time, so now I am waiting until I can lie on my stomach before going in. I would say at least wait until your expernal stapes are out, mine were removed at my 1 week post op appointment. Now I can sort of lay on my stomach but I will wait some more since it will probably put pressure on your tummy, I'm guessing? I've never had a massage so I don't know. I'm looking forward to it though!

check out my blog!

Thanks!  I'm going to schedule it for as late in April as I can.  I'm shaving my head on the 26th so I figure, worst case, she can just massage my head for 60 minutes ;)

Enjoy your massage!  Before this year, I'd only ever gotten them occasionally while on vacations.  But this year, I needed something kind for myself with everything that's going on.

As a massage therapist, I think that a massage ASAP after surgery would be perfect.  It would improve circulation, promote lyph flow and encourage healing and relieve stress.

I went for a massage about 2 weeks after surgery.  It was awkward because there was no way at all I could lie on my stomach. I had them do a chair massage but I still had to slump so I wouldn't have pressure on my top incision.  It was worth it, but after that I decided to wait until I could relax lying on my tummy on my own bed before I went back.

Since then, I've been several times and loved it.  I haven't had to make any adjustments in what I get done.
