Regaining Normality
I had my surgery 15 days ago and I finally feel like I'm approaching normality!
The good - I was able to go back to choir last night for the first time since surgery and singing, something I'd been worried about, was actually pretty good! My breath control wasn't 100%, but I had no issues with the phonation part and I left choir feeling awesome. I've been out to the movies. I'm planning on going to movies, a show, and grocery shopping this weekend. Driving has been great. Getting to eat food, even if it's pureed, has rocked. I've had lots of time to read. I've gone to the gym. I'm slowly resuming my normally scheduled life. I'm doing laundry today for the first time since surgery. I'm cooking dinner tonight too (my favorite chicken curry) and my family will be eating dinner at the table together for the first time since the beginning of March. My steristrips are all off as of today! I'm done shooting up with Lovenox. It's awesome :D
The bad - Sitting up straight for too long can be a little painful, but this has only really come into play when I drove the hour each way to my followup with my surgeon on Monday. Most of the time I'm fine. My period came on Monday and SUCKED. But it always does when I'm off BCP, so this was completely expected. It still sucks. :P
The ugly - My bowels are still not "normal," whatever that is. I'm taking benefiber and miralax every day and those seem to be helping at the least. I've been having bouts of diarrhea every day, but a relatively normal bowel movement in the morning when I wake up.
The awesome - My body is changing. I've lost some weight, which is awesome, but even better, I'm seeing the weight loss in my face and I'm feeling it in my flanks and boobs and feet. It's really cool to see and feel my body getting smaller. My shirts are fitting different, my jeans are looser through the legs. Yay!

Thank you! I hope things only continue to improve for you too! Our surgery dates are only 3 days apart, so I imagine we'll have similar timing going on. :)

I agree! Although, between you and me, I'm jealous of Katie's awesome weight loss so far. Then I tell myself, "DON'T COMPARE THYSELF TO OTHERS" and get over it.
Don't tell her ;)

Awesome!!!! Isn't it great?
Did you think you'd feel like this? How different is it than what you'd heard or worried about? I appreciate you posting this so quickly after surgery--it might make a ton of difference to some people on the fence. Prepare for that first stall--and by prepare I mean forget about it!! LOL. It will happen and you'll think it's the end of the world but IT WILL PASS. We get so used to seeing dramatic changes every single day....and the first day the scale says something we don't want to see, we panic. Take it from all of us, it will pass.
I'm so very happy for you!
I knew I'd feel like this, I just didn't know how soon! I've had other surgeries and I've never had problems, so I knew that if I just stayed the course, followed my diet, and didn't do anything super challenging in those first two weeks, that I'd be okay. I have lots of faith in the medical profession and science, so I knew things would be okay in the end.
I feel like I've been stally this week, but I blame my period. And I'm still losing a few ounces a day and seeing my body and my body fat change, so it's not so bad, you know? I've never harbored the notion that I'd be one of those lucky people who drops 30 pounds in the first month - I'm much too much of an Eyeore for that. :)
