First Soft Food?

Soft foods are on the horizon for me!  I get to switch to them on Thursday and I'm very excited to finally get to chew.  I can't wait for solids!  I can't wait to not need to puree foods!  I can't wait to no longer have a billion containers of random pureed foods in the fridge.

What was YOUR first solid food?  Did you have a "soft solids" transition phase like I do?

I had soft foods at 3 weeks post op. The easiest for me to tolerate was tilapia and salmon. I could also eat fried or boiled eggs but not scrambled for some reason. I tried tuna salad at that point but it didn't go down as well as other foods..not sure why. Everyone is a little different. When I finally had chicken it was fajita chicken meat and I ate the middle so it was the softest part. Good Luck!

my first soft food was turkey sausage - it was delicious! I texted my friend about how excited I was to eat with a fork after 4 weeks of liquids and 4 weeks of purees!

Yum!  I've got a sausage and chickpea salad that I'm planning on making a next weekend since it's loaded with protein and flavor.  I'm excited!

I'm in my first week on soft foods. It's been really nice and such a welcome change! Still doing two protein shakes a day, although I have started adding the sugar free Torani syrups in. The sugar free brown sugar cinnamon is delish!

Re: my first soft food-mine was a scrambled egg! I couldn't wait for breakfast that morning. But then...I could only eat half of it, ha ha. The next time I had a scrambled egg I mixed it with a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese and it was yummy!

Yogurt and cottage cheese are going well. So are bananas and refried beans. Fruits are harder for me because the ones I can have now, I don't really like-melons and such. I can have strawberries, but I'm not going to buy a quart of strawberries when all I can have at one time is 1/4 cup. They would go bad before I used them all. And I really dislike the mushiness of frozen strawberries. I'm thinking if I blend them in with my shake it might be ok.

I tried tuna one day and it didn't go so well. Maybe 5 bites and I was done. I don't know if it was because it's a stronger taste than I'm used to now or the texture. I haven't tried it again, but I need to. It made me leery of salmon, too, but I am going to try the salmon for dinner tonight.

Good luck with the salmon!  I'm hoping to have lots and lots of fish during my soft food phase.
