Ponderings on Excess Skin
It can be challenging to just be happy with ourselves, eh?

Gwen I have thought about this also!!! when the time comes what will I do!!! I mean I still have almost 60lbs to go!!! but I like the way I look in clothes right now ... And Im sure 60 lbs down the road I will love it!!! but what about with out clothes!!!! when I read this the first thought that came to my mind was... Before weight loss I wouldnt even look in the mirror!! I hated it and I also wouldnt take pics!!!! Now I can look in the mirror and dont mind pics here and there!!!! So its already 100 times better!!! If i had to choose between 50lbs ago body and this one !! this one wins hands Down!!!!!!
I actually bought a full length mirror about a month after surgery. I had never owned one before in my adult life! How crazy is that? :D I LIKE looking at myself in the mirror!

So funny--I bought one a few days before surgery--it was part of committing to change for me, the willingness to see myself in full from now on. At the foot of that new full length mirror is my brand-spankin' new scale that wirelessly transmits my weight every morning to MFP and HealthMate, together with my BP, some days I get on the scale and don't even bother to look at it until much later when I'm logging my food for the day.
If you don't use TrendWeight, I really recommend it. Especially if you've already got the high tech scale :D

My sister sent me this link last week - it's not about loose skin per se, but about the negative body image that most women have. It nearly made me cry, but most importantly, made me re-think how I evaluate my body.

Not to say that I won't ever consider plastic surgery. With 190 pounds or so to lose, it's most likely in my future, but I'm going to try not to talk/think crap about my body in the meantime.
Thank you for the link! We have similar amounts of weight to lose - my ultimate goal is to lose 192.

I am proud of my flappy skin so far...it means it isn't puffed/stretched out by fat underneath it!
I have actually gotten criticism from a female coworker about my flappy arms and how it is gross and will just get worse. I fully plan on slapping her in the face with my bat wings when I have lost 100 pounds. :)
In all seriousness - love your body - if you don't love your body how can you be good to it? Sure, you will have "battle scars" from being fat - stretchies, saggies, flappy skin...but they are all there and visible now because you are getting healthier.
I may have plastics one day if the skin is painful or extremely bothersome in clothing - but I fully plan to embrace my new body and buy proper undergarments to support and tame the saggy parts.
