I'm 10 days post op. I'm normally a side sleeper and have not been able to sleep in any position except on my back. It is uncomfortable and I'm getting cranky!!! I just want to have a good night sleep!!! How long will my right hand side hurt???? When will I be able to sleep on my side again???

I slept on the couch with my upper body elevated on pillows for two weeks. Then I slept on my left side with a small pillow stuffed under my side for a few days after that. Try laying on your side with different pillows or a rolled towel, blanket or body pillow for some support and see if that makes a difference.

congrats on your surgery.  I always slept on my stomach prior to surgery.  I slept in a recliner for about a week after & then got used to sleeping on my back.  Now I'm sleeping on my side but use a body pillow beside me to drape my leg over & keep kind of under my side.  I want to invest in one of these body pillows & might splurge for my b'day.  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Leachco-All-Nighter-Total-Body-Pre gnancy-Pillow-Ivory/13360480?qty_0=1®istry_id=26770854202 &selected_variation_0=13360480&shopFor=true&upc=000455161384 9

Good luck & hope you find a comfortable position.

I wasn't able to sleep normally for many weeks and it was really challenging.  Sleeping in a recliner certainly helped!

I slept in bed on my back with head elevated for about a month.  I would just like to mention, we were under doctors orders not to sleep in a recliner after surgery due to the increased risk of blood clots.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Dedicated side-sleeper here, too. RNY & hiatal hernia repair 5/12.  Padding works.  I don't know how you're able to sleep flat on your back - yikes that hurt me to try. I slept in the recliner for 3-4 nights  - the few hours that I did sleep, then would get up and do a lap around the house. Until I couldn't take it anymore. I tried my side with a quilt (throw size) stuffed under my side to support my belly and rib area. Then I would sit up and point my head to the bottom of the bed to sleep on my other side (there was no easy rolling over to get from side to side).

I didn't receive any instruction about not using a recliner, but all surgeons are different. The recliner is similar to how a hospital bed folds you. Anyway, it provided me sleep time. I still have discomfort sleeping on my side and still use the padding. You will be sleeping on your side again!!
