I ran for the first time ever, and I didn't die
Question lady... but how soon after walking and speed walking was it that you could actually run.... I'm 46 and like you I haven't run in forever at least 30 years here. . I ran 1 block after I saw your post but I mean really run... how can I get that going I would love to jog... but right now I can still only do about 3 to 5 mile speed walk... can you help train me on how to get it started... without killing me.... Btw I do have a bad back and a bad knee .. help
Thanks
♡Kelly
I do have advice! I really recommend getting a couch to 5k program, there are apps for your phone with the timing. The way the program works is that you alternate walking with running, so the first week, for example, you're running a minute and then walking 90 seconds. It's a three day a week program and pretty great.
I'm not at that point where I can do week 1 of the program yet, but I'm running for 45 seconds and then walking for 4 minutes. The idea is that you then lengthen your run times and shorten your recovery walk times.
I hope this makes sense! (And no matter what you do, you should take at least 10 minutes of walking to warm your muscles up before running!)

A few of my friends use Map My Run and love it too. I'm a Runkeeper user personally. Whatever works!

Considering my c25k app has 20 minute sessions, I'd say you are definitely at week 1!

My C25K is 30 minute workouts and the first is "run 60, walk 90." :( I'm not to where I can run 60 seconds yet. But I'll get there!
