Nerves Before a Follow-Up

Do you all get nerves before post-op follow-ups with your surgeon?  I'm seeing mine for the third time post-op on Friday and I'm super nervous.  (I'm seeing the NUT for the first time post-op on the same day.)  Even though I feel amazing and I'm super thrilled with my weight loss and my body in general, there's that little voice in my head that worries all of the progress I've made isn't actually good enough and that my surgeon will tell me I'm failing, not losing fast enough, not doing enough exercise, eating all the wrong foods, etc.

If you did have nerves like this before a follow-up, at what point did they start to ease off?

Geeze, how could one NOT be nervous about the prospect of being measured and judged? Totally natural, and I doubt they will ever ease up. Well, until you get to goal, maybe, which will be sooner than any of us is prepared for, I'm sure.

Gwen, you're doing fabulously well, and there is no way that doctor is not going to be thrilled for you.

Aaah, goal.  It's like a pretty pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.  We'll get there someday, eh? :)

I never get nervous.  My clinic is so supportive and encouraging that I wish I could go more.  If it wasn't for them I don't think I would be doing as well as I am.  They have been there every step of the way for me.

Maybe you're not getting the support you need from them and feel judged.

That would be a nice explanation, but my surgeon and his team have all been nothing but awesome.  (Otherwise, I wouldn't have gone with him for my surgery!)  This is just completely unfounded nervousness, something I am the master of.  :|

Well that's great news.  Maybe it's nervous excitement to show them how well you are doing.  I'm sure they are going to be extremely pleased with your progress!

I don't get nervous prior to my follow ups.  I have one next Tuesday.   I'm actually excited to see my surgeon since I've dropped almost 100 pounds since surgery.  I want him to praise me and worship at my feet.

Then again,  I'll have to be honest how I've slacked off on the exercise.   He can lecture me, chide me and guilt trip me.  I deserve it.

Gwen, you're doing stellar.   Burn those nasty tapes rolling around in your head and recognize your great achievements. You are amazing.

It's such a hard thing to do :(  I'm so used to feeling like I'm never good enough and always failing when it comes to my body.

This is maybe something I should talk about with my therapist today, eh? :P
