Nerves Before a Follow-Up

Yes! I get so nervous when I go for post-op appointments. It doesn't matter if it's the dietitian, behaviourist, nutritionist, a nurse, whoever... I get soooo nervous.

But they are all pretty amazing, and they all reassure me that I'm doing really well. That tends to ease my mind a little, even if only temporarily.

You're doing great Gwen! They'll tell you that, I'm sure. It's a natural worry that many of us have and believe me, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. I am sure you'll come back here on Friday and tell us how amazingly well the appointment went; I look forward to reading that post!

Thanks, I'm really glad to know that I'm not alone - even though we're all so successful!

There's just that voice in my head that says, "what if I should be losing 5 pounds a week instead of 2.5?!"  or "what if I should be doing 4 hours of exercise a day?!"  Etc, etc, etc.  That voice needs a muzzle.

The only reason I get nervous is because I have a big ole crush on my surgeon  kidding....kinda. The only reason I would be nervous is if I had gained, but I haven't so all is well.

I have read stories here about surgeons being ******** but most are not. It sounds like your's is not one of those.

Relax. you are doing AWESOME!!

Aaaw.  That's cute that you've got a teeny crush on your surgeon :D

My surgeon was really happy when I saw him last time and even cautioned me that my weight loss would slow down and that I shouldn't be upset when that happened.  My rate is still the same as when I saw him last so I know, on a rational level, that he'll be really pleased.  But it's that irrational stuff that gets in the way and makes me super nervous!  I haven't had to take any xanax since 5 weeks post-op, but I have a feeling I might take one on Friday morning :P

I don't see my surgeon often but go monthly to the GI/Nutrition clinic.  I don't ever get nervous going there because I don't feel judged by them.  This morning, I had to have a wellness screening at work for our health insurance. They require a 30 or below BMI to qualify for free insurance, among other things.  My BMI is at 34.  I was literally shaking and my blood pressure was high.  I knew my BMI was too high and I was going to be judged for it.  I know I will have no problem getting to a 30 BMI before the cut off in November but all the old insecurities came back when I stepped on that scale.  It doesn't matter that last year my BMI was over 50 and I've come so far, I haven't gone far enough and it freaked me out!

I don't feel judged by my medical team either - I judge myself quite enough for the whole world! ;)
