Confessions of the Fat me.......

I'm sure I used to do this regularly...but I blocked it out. More so I remember the awkward times when I didn't do it...like once when I only bought a block of mozzarella cheese and a large bag of M&Ms (yep, dinner) and the cashier said, 'that's an odd combination.' I just sort of smiled, grabbed my bag and hauled my fat ass out of there.

1) Going to a grocery store completely across town to avoid certain cashiers who I knew would remember me and my huge junk-food laden purchases from previous days.

2) Once having a huge McDonald's breakfast on a Saturday morning and then getting a surprise brunch invite from friends an hour later.  I went, didn't mention already eating, and scarfed down another huge meal.  Must have been 3,000 calories before noon.

Wow! You guys are sooooo creative! I just ordered what I wanted and I figured when they took one look at me, it was pretty obvious who was going to consume that. I also felt that other people (strangers) really didn't give a rip what I ate - part of the whole being invisible thing. If I didn't care about myself, why should they? I don't recall any bug eyes or comments on the volume except the occasional jab from DH about how I ate as much as him (which usually pissed me off royally - Mr. Never Overweight). It is SOOOO awful to feel you have to lie or cover up what's really going on. It just adds another layer to the guilt....Hugs to any Pre-Op still going through this.

I'm with you.  I never did any of these things because I thought that I was invisible and no one actually cared or noticed what I looked like or what I ate.  I remember stopping off at KFC and ordering a family sized popcorn chicken, large coleslaw and all the other fixings and just eating it in the car so that Alan would not see the evidence.  I also remember ordering a full meal at Burger King and then going to get a large milkshake at BR.  I also remember ordering a large pizza and having it all in one night every time Alan needed to go out of town on business.  I am so glad that those days are over.

After all of my pre-op supervised visits with the nutritionist and surgeon, I would stop and go through the drive through of Zaxby's (fried chicken finger/fries). I justified it that I barely ate anything prior to the appointment because I was worried about weighing in.  I'm so very grateful those days are behind me!!

I can honestly say I have done any of those things.  I never cared what people thought when I purchased food for two or three at the drive up and such and it was all for me. I was a Taco Hell fan and would always order a ton of food. Sometime I would go in to consume it all.

Nope, can't say that I was ever that creative. I was one of those who was convinced I ate healthy balanced meals and great quality food, and not THAT much and couldn't figure out how it was that I was 220 lbs. at 5ft. In the immediate post op period it became pretty clear how it all happened but before, I was too much down the river in denial to engage in any covert operations to cover up the evidence. To me there was nothing to cover up.

I still don't like eating in public.

I have done all those things....except for the cake, although it sounds familiar so maybe once.

I used to order double portions for myself at drive thru and eat one portion before I got home so no one would know I was eating twice as much as them for every meal.

I always had an excuse as to why we needed a dozen donuts for the weekend or a cake, pastries, etc

I ALWAYS drank diet coke and convinced myself that I was ingesting less calories because of it.

I guess I had no shame. I would go to Cap'N D's and order a family meal with a coke and eat it in the restaurant.
