Ok so I'm at my second job of a snack bar chick at the skating ring. I'm 4 weeks and 2 days since surgery and according my surgeons plan I'm on soft foods this week. I brought a cheese stick for lunch, but my stomach is kinda acting diarrheaish. So I really don't want to pu**** with more dairy. So, looking around, I really don't have many options. We have nachos, nope-chips; pizza, no-bread and cheese, then there are hotdogs... They are the ballpark franks with pork, turkey and chicken. It does have 5g of protein. So do you think if I chewed it good it would be ok?? Anyone have hotdog wieners on their soft food stage?

Soft foods is generally the pureed food stage:  yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, refried beans, scrambled foods, etc.  So a hot dog (and cheese stick, for that matter) are not soft foods.

Didn't your surgeon's office give you a food list for the various stages you should be going through?  Read it thoroughly and stick to it.

Planning is very important.  You should be eating several times a day. (My plan calls for three meals and two snacks)  You should have brought a meal and/or snack with you -- and always have a protein shake available.  You have a tough job, working at a snack bar.  That makes it all the more important to be prepared -- otherwise you'll be doomed!!

Hope you make it through the day without doing much damage -- but dig out your paperwork when you get home so you'll be better prepared tomorrow.

Good luck.

I did bring my big shaker with enough protein shake to last me all day at work (2-4oz snacks). I did read my plan from my surgeon and at soft foods it allows soft string cheese. So I brought a low fat mozzarella cheese stick. I also brought 2 bottles of g2 (recommended by my surgeon and his plan) to drink instead of all the sodas offered here (which I know I can't have, but at the same time, I've having a hard time with plain water. Please do not doubt my knowledge of my surgeons plan. My plan also allows (at my soft food stage) chicken and turkey. At the purée stage it said blended with broth. For the soft food stage it does not say that. I know everyone's plan is different, I was just wondering what others thoughts were on the wiener.

Do you have access to anything like tuna or hummus?  Or any sort of bean dip?  Do you have a friend who could bring you something?

A hot dog is certainly not a great choice, but if you chew it super well you'll be fine. (I'm also not in the "fat from foods is bad" camp.)

In the future, bring something to eat just in case. I carry a pouch of tuna with me everywhere :) And don't beat yourself up about this - it's a learning experience.

Yes I did. Don't be afraid of a little fat. I ate plain chicken frankfurters. watch out for the carbs tho, they are there too. Frankfurters are allowed as soft foods in my plan but I personally don't recommend them being so processed. But certainly better than the other foods u mentioned. Always, Always be prepared for this sort of situation bcuz all the unhealthy snacks look SOoooooo tempting sometimes. Bring food always. Tho it might be hard for u considering you have 2 jobs.

Always here to help.

Tried a bit of a hot dog in the soft food stage.  It was disgusting to me - without the bun, ketchup and mustard, it was just gross.  And it made me super thirsty and I couldn't drink.  I don't recommend it.  A year out, sure.  But not now.

Canned chicken or tuna is a wonderful idea to bring with you for work.  The hotdog probably isn't the best, but it looks like the one that sucks the least.

I just  started the soft food phase last week.  For me soft foods were significantly different than the purred phase.  The list of don'ts they gave me included hot dogs.  I believe the reason is that the casings can cause issues.  I would say if you can't find anything better at least cut off the casing/outside of the hot dog
